looking for a towing turbo?

no only thing that will come close to a 35 that I know of is a towing twins set-up, But honestly with mine I was able to increase the fuel so the lag was minor to to the higher TQ at lower rpms. I move heavy loads with no problems with mine. But as far as I know nothing beats twins for fast spool and still handle more fuel(without a centrifigal charger or tons of nitrous).

I just got my 64/14 silver bullet and to sum it up, it SUCKS for towing. my egt's actually are higher now by 100* at 75mph towing 5000lbs. Elevation is 4200 ft. My truck runs 1800 rpm's at 75 with my setup, I cant stay in the turbo enough to keep from having a thick trail of smoke behind me. Empty in town, when it FINALLY hits 7 lbs of boost, the truck is really fun to drive then. Too bad the people behind me dont like it.

For a single with my particular set-up a 62/14 seems like a good turbo IMO. I just had to raise my shift points alittle and all is well. Pulling 25k up monteagle the past weekend without a single problem, I actually went up and down it 4 times just to test out the new set-up. Once with cruise set at 65mph once hittin it at a snails pace from the emergency lane(not on purpose, I blew a clamp on the intercooler boot)and shifting while going up, then a lets see if it will get to hot at 75, and then a regular pass with traffic which left me stuck behind a slow moving truck and I was able to downshift and pass without luggin. Now we don't have the grapevine here so I cant test on those grades. But I can say in my case my truck tows better for the most part, and the lag has not been a issue. I don't know if this would be the case in a auto. I always thought autos handled big singles better because once they lit they shifted fast enough to keep the boost.

I like my S300 with a little tighter exhaust housing. It spools quick and I can tow with pretty good results. I still get hot, but I just can't get the air to cool the fuel and I think thats just a 12V trait, they don't flow well enough.
After I added the TAGIII, my smoke is nil in town and towing it spools through 10 psi fast without the laggy smoke. I think the DDP's are to credit for less smoke if that makes sense....

64's are performance turbos not towing turbos. A 62 with a smaller housing has been reported to have quick, stock like spool, but the even smaller super b/htbg/s300 would spool even quicker.
There's been some good feedback on the garrett ballbearing turbos and those suckers are supposed to be quick =P

My pickup is used exclusively for towing and a week ago I would have told you I hated the HTBG 14 cm turbo with the mods in my signature. However, last weekend I found that the wastegate actuator rod was rubbing the oil line thus preventing the waste gate from completely closing resulting in my poor performance. Since correcting this problem the HTBG seems to have a nice improvement over the stock HX35 for my application.
