Start with a set of gauges. Then save a little more and replace the transmission so when you start the bombing process, you will not be left stranded on the road. If not get a good set of injectors, exhaust, intake, and a programmer. Don't be surprised when the trans fails though.

Most any auto will fail when that much torque is being put through it. Ford, Dodge, Chevy- all of them have marginal stock transmissions. If you want the most out of your truck, it will need a stronger transmission.

You can safely do stuff like an Edge EZ, intake and exhaust mods without worrying too much about the tranny. Just the addition of a tranny temp gauge will help it survive because you can monitor fluid temps and keep them in the sane range.
On an older 1992 truck I did injectors, pump mods (which basically equate to the Edge EZ on the 24 valve), intake and exhaust, and I never touched the tranny except to do normal servicing. You'll quickly learn what driving techniques kill the transmission and you won't do them. That's the biggest thing right there.

The first thing you need is a fuel pump!! Everyone always over looks fuel pressure for power. I would get a pump, intake, exhaust and maybe a small programmer/chip. An Edge is nice because it has gauges all built in to monitor your tranny temp, EGTs, Fuel, Boost and like 40 other features. Just be smart when you get your power increased. If you run around hammering it all the time with the chip cranked up dont be surprised to be having to get a tranny built within a month. If your smart and drive it nice it should hold a while till you get it freshened up with a good valve body, convertor and whatever else you decide to do it. You could spend $3k-$8k on a tranny depending on the power level you want to go to. Good luck and have fun. Chris

I just bought a Suncoast coverter (it's even a single disk, I think) and went with it on my 12v about a 80k ago, and I am hard on things It has worked well for me- 4 or 5 good tranny builders out there- use the search and you will be impressed!!
