Limit to SB Con OFE????
Just put the F1 mach 4's in. Injectors are great but the clutch is slipping on level 2 of my comp. This should be below the rated HP of the clutch.
Clutch is 2 years old and has about 50k on it. Do they wear that fast?
In either case I guess I am looking for something stronger. I am sure the 5x5 setting will be calling once the new turbo arrives. Based on your experience and the mods in my sig, what would be the proper clutch? I do tow periodically, and need to have a pretty smooth engagement. I have to position the trailer pretty accurately under a hoist....

I'm in the same boat. I have about 43k on mine, and now it just started slipping in 5th gear wot. From what Peter told me, it will last atleast 150k, and I don't even race or play or pull, 95% of mine is empty hwy, about 6 dyno runs, but nothing major. I just thought I might have some oil on mine.
I plan on running mine till it wears out more, I paid alot for it and somewhat disappointed its slipping, but since theres no inspection plate I can't go assuming its a faulty product, theres lots others that abuse theres ALOT more than me and I've see some run 550hp on them, I can't see replacing it, it holds fine if I have the valet on, or I just ease into it, keep it under 300hp. It just doesn't like the 0 plate i guess, I'm at 430hp.

I have an OFE and it has held up well, about 30K on it.
Scott-Depends on how much weight you tow, but those F1's are a little on the hot side for regular towing. As for the clutch, the next in line is the FE and those aren't great for towing either. My OFE is a bugger to back with.
I think you need to ask hot rod or tow rig. Or get twins!

I was able to slip an FE with Bully Dog 3s and an Drag Comp w/ a Modified HX55 turbo when getting on it in 4th gear. I would recommend going to a double disc if you tow much, they are much smoother.

If I did glaze the clutch is it done? Same with oil. Unfortunatley I think I know the answer but maybe someone has a solution. If there isn't a solution, probably will have to live with it for a while until the my little piggy bank gets a few more penny's in it.
In reality, running the injectors without the comp is almost acceptable... It is a new truck and in many ways more drivable than with my old 275's. Actually smokes less.

Wow this doesn't make me feel very good. Mine has been great so far but I am only at 375. Hope mine last longer than 50K.
I have had no problems backing a trailer with the OFE. If you are backing something up a steep hill put it in 4low and it should be no problem. Also pull the motor off idle and it will be smoother.

I know my buddy's SBC held up for a little while at 560hp and my other buddy is running his up around 500hp and he tows and hasn't slipped it yet. Another buddy of mine has got probably 50k+ on his at 400hp and he tows 10k+ almost daily and his isn't slipping.

Clutches can give a lot of life after they first slip.
I first slipped my stocker with an EZ and DD2s in the winter of 04.
I upgraded the sticks to M4s, and the EZ was replaced by a Smarty and still got almost two more years out of it. I finally replaced it with a CON FE in April of 06.
Clutch life is a big crap shoot. You can help yours last a long time like mine did by using first gear and not downshifting (no reason to do it, since your diesel doesn't give you engine braking.)
I'm very pleased with my FE, though I suspect it would difficult to hookup a trailer with, as it's pretty grabby on initial bite. It likes to be either in or out.

Thanks for the feedback. I feel that the SBC clutch isn't the problem, most likely some oil or glazing taking place on the flywheel. The priority for changing it out will be how well I tow with it when the turbo arrives.
If my main seal is starting to leak then time will tell.

I got 260k on the stock clutch in my 93 and as far as I know it's still working fine for the new owner. Didn't tow anything other than a car trailer a couple of times. Like anything else, towing increases wear. But driving habits do to.
I have read where they recommend a new clutch after you do the air box, the exhaust and the mid power chip but before you do anything else, like a new turbo, injectors etc. Especially if there's some miles on the current one. Them's probably wise words....
