Lift pump two much pressure
Okay guys I got a question on lp pressure, I just installed a new carter pump with holley blue and regulator now the pressure is 20 psi on idle, driving normal driving it drops down to 18, but when I change to level 5 on the attitude it gets as low 13 psi, is 20 to much on idle cause I don't want to hurt my vp44 that has just been replaced,I can turn it down the pressure if I have two with regulator.

thats great. mine is upwards of 25 psi or so. (dont have the 30 psi guage, so im not positive)
anything above 28 (i think) is where seals start leaking and you get hard starts

How in the world are you getting that much pressure out of a Carter lift pump? I use a mechanical boost gauge to measure mine and they vary between 12 and 14 psi idle.

When you put the two pumps in series, you basically add the pressures together.. if each build 10psi.. you end up with 20... Where is your regulator.. bases on your pressures.. it must be have the holley, but before the LP... Try moving the regulator to after the LP... Which Carter pump are you running??

Hi xms
Been running with a BD pusher pump since early this year, done about 7000 miles since then.I queried the idle pressure with BDs but they said that 29 psi was normal for their pusher pump kit,and that only if the fuel pressure exceeded 40 psi would there be problems. The pump that comes with the kit is a Carter p4601
