my next step is a nice DD clutch from south bend. and i have always planned to go SBC when i get the money...but i have been offered a kenny's machine DD set up with about 500miles on it for a heck of a deal. just weighing the options here.

as the poster of this question im asking you guys to keep it clean and civil so i can get some info here without the thread needing to be locked or deleted

I have heard a few good things about them. They are a lot cheaper andthey hold the power I just talked to a few guy who have ran them and they say they are not as streetable as the 3850 SBC dd. Just a little more grabby.
I have the 3850 SBC and really like it. But I also sled pull a lot so thats why I went with the 3850 plate load. SBC offers others that would be even better at towing or daily driveing. Mine does great towing. I have been loaded down with 20K pounds of hay and trailer many of times and never had a problem. I heard that kenny stands behind his clutcches pretty good but I just trust Peter of SBC because he has went out of his way to help me not once but many of times. Most places that sell DD's if they know you are going to hook to a sled will not help you if you burn one up but peter really suprised me.
Best of luck in choosing a clutch I know price is a big thing but after you buy what happens if it breaks?

i know people running them but they are preety competition oriented. they have tripple setups and make clutches for pulling tractors ect. He put new pucks on the haisley street drag I have before it was sold to me and it does real well. When it starts getting grabby slip it a little or run it hard and it runs smooth again.

What's the plate load? Any specs on the flywheel? Is it organic, feramic or ceramic? I don't know squat about Kenny's machine, but have read up on sbc and the hasiley DD clutches.

Flywheel is SFI approved steel, clamp load for street version is 3000, IIRC the pulling version's clamp load is 3600 or 3800, clutch discs are ceramic pucks. He can build it to fit the stock input shaft on the 4500, or the aftermarket larger shaft. His street version is my dream clutch, but I'll probably get stuck w/ one of those LUK ceramic 13" upgrades.

Since we're on the subject of DD clutches... is there anything special I'd need to do to off set the weight of the clutch pack and the grip of the clutch? I seen someone's post about radial cracking of the input shaft, and they also mentioned running an aftermarket crank damper. Are those requirements for running a DD clutch, or for pullers only? The answers to these questions may be the determining factor whether I go w/ a DD clutch or a single plate from LUK.

Kenny's is pretty close to me(30mins or so). I have heard mixed things about his clutches. A guy i know pulls with a dual disc, and said it holds good on the track, but he can slip it on the road. I helped my buddy put in one of his single discs in a 95 5 speed with plate, 3k gsk, and 370's. It holds fine from what i can tell; even loaded down hard, but it is fairly grabby(but driveable). Another buddy of mine is running one in a 1st gen with pump tweaks, 3200 spring, and a 12cm housing. truck runs good, and the clutch holds great, but man that thing is HORRIBLE grabby. I wouldnt want to drive it everyday. The whole truck shakes horrible taking off. Like I said.. I have heard/seen mixed things about them. I would buy a SBC if my truck were a stick..

Yeah kenny is about 30 minutes away from me and eric (cumminsdriver). From what I have heard he builds a really good pullin clutch for tractors, but im just not sure about the trucks. As stated before though, his clutches seem to be more competition oriented.

Well I found his webpage http://www.kennysmachine.com/about.cfm
Looks like his street dd is $1350 and pullin DD is $1500 new- just so you know what kind of deal you're looking at.
