K&N Filter

I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for. I have heard some people talk about grease for this filter when you put it in the stock air box. I was wondering if Lubriplate 105 would work. I you this when rebuilding engines. If not what would you recommend?

Thanks,
Scooter

Re:K&N Filter

Personaly I'd just use a Scotty II.

Seriously though, I think any grease designed to be used around plastic/silicone parts and is fairly high-temp should be OK.

Or you can use their "special" sealing grease.
http://www.knfilters.com/clningacc.htm

Ed

Re:K&N Filter

I used the K&N for two years, no complaints other that the frustration about greasing the stock airbox to try to get it to seal properly.

Now using the Scotty II, fit is superb, no sealing problems, and even running unloaded at highway speeds I see a 50* reduction in EGTs.
Also, as I add more Mods, I know the intake side is ready to accept them.

Ed

I have seen the Rubber seal area break down and crumble.

The Trick I was using before I upgraded to "Scotty Airs" boxes and "AFE" filters was to Buy small vacuum line 1/8" then cut it in half lengthwise and Glue it with weatherstrip glue to the Rib that runs around the bottom half of the oem airbox.

This way you will not need the Grease as the K&N filter is
lifted up tight against the oem lid.

You can always pull the hose piece off if you change to a AFE in the oem box. Or just Buy the best "Scotty Air" 8) ;D
