The K&N in the box

I am currently running a K&N oiled filter as a replacement for my factory air filter. I was under the impression this would allow my engine to breathe easier. I am now reading tidbits about how Cummins recommends against oiled filters, like K&N. Does anyone know why, and does anyone have any pictures of a BHAF setup for me to look at? I am pondering getting rid of an oiled filter, especially if it's not good for my engine!
Thanks

Re:The K&N in the box

I do not know the Cummins answer as to why they dont like the oiled filter.
However, it may be because if the filter is over oiled, the turbo can suck the oil off of oiled filters and coat the turbo.

This happend to me with the K&N I had. It was over oiled from the factory.
I spent a Sunday afternoon cleaning out my turbo.

Rich.

I have had one in my truck for a couple of years. No problems. Just make sure you don't put to much oil on the filter and let them dry before putting back in.

I also took the hole saw to the stock air box to let more air in.

B

Re:The K&N in the box

I just read it and it doesnt say anywhere that oiled filters are a problem. It only pertains to high flow filters. Of coarse they have to say this to keep their selves from being liable. If anything, I hear that the stock air box itself is bogus and can let dirt in if not taking extra care to make sure it is totaly sealed. This would also be the case for any drop in you put in it. High flow or not. I know a K&N dropin can cost around $70-$80. Save your money and buy a quality after market unit like a Mega Cannon, Scotty, or even a K&N cone style if you really like K&N. Guys use these that suck tons of air pushing huge amounts of boost and dont get any oil on their turbo blades.
I'm not really sure where a little oil would hurt anything or for that matter stay on the impeller that spins stock at around 150,000 rpm!
