Hmm if there is new/updated hardware coming out for the SMARTY, maybe I will be interested in purchasing one again

cspotrun: For us high altitude guys it would be very interesting to build twins with the HY and a clever wastegate. Maybe an SPS66 or something like that as a primary. Or maybe even an HX35/40 hybrid as a primary, should get you the nice HY spool and since you keep both compressors in the fat part of their respective maps it should suffice for something like 400hp with decent EGTs and decent backpressure.
Funny you said that. I have been dinking around with the idea of running an HY and a smaller primary(something in the bb line from Turbonetics/Garret). But I've recently commited to going to a Dodgezilla and a 12cm wastegated housing. Might hang an S400 off that later on if I decide to keep the truck. The little ones are getting to big to deal with this Quad cab.

I think just the 98.5's and 99's had no valve seats. Not sure on the 2000's but I believe they have seats. The 01's and 02's definitely have valve seats.

They all have valve seats... It's just a matter of if they are pressed in or machined in.

You're correct!

I actually meant that on the 98.5 24V there are no valve seat rings, but the head is machined to be the valve seat- so there is no issue of dropping the seat on this engine.

Only the HO's had press in seats IIRC

I think that's what Matt meant as well, just wanted to clarify.

Actually I was wrong. I thought they changed it by year, I didn't know it was a HO/SO thing. Good information. But yes, thanks for clarifying Mike on the machined seats vs the pressed in, I wasn't clear on that.

So where is this new update for the Smarty going to be released for the public actually? Does it seem to be a big difference of it over level 9 on the Smarty now? I'm guessing the update replaces level 9 with the new level instead....or how does it do it?

I hope that you guys are correct about only the HO's have them. I wish I would have checked when my head was off. I have been afraid of dropping one for along time & sure would be happy if this info is true.

Didn't notice much difference with the new software on the dyno, just spun the rollers a lil faster to 127 IIRC But this was a lite modded truck Mach1.2's & Smarty on an HO Motor.

That is good to know! I have only been reving my truck to 3400 while sled pulling because I was afraid of that. Thanks.

for the record, i tried this new beta over the weekend and was all excited, but i cant feel any difference, and it defuels at 3600. i did a free rev in neutral and it blew smoke all the way to 3800 rpms just to see if it was still fueling that high, but on the highway in 4 or 5th gear i can not get it to go past 3600, it falls on its face.

Does it pull hard to 3600 or kind of just whimper it's way up there?
