I'm living just a couple of miles north of Huntington, WV in Ohio. About three miles north of the river.
Not looking to make this a full blown truck. Right now I'm just wanting to add a few horses. The MBRP 4" exhaust system, front to back is about as non-restricted as it can be. The muffler is nothing more than an open pipe with small dimples in it. You look straight through it. And the AEM air intake is brand new. Full system, not just the filter.
Do all of the 98's have the Bosch pump that will need the DPK. Someone said something about the 215 pump. That must be the injector pump. Yes?
Will I still need gauges for just the few horses that I'm currently looking for. Say less than 80.
did the air intake and the exhaust system add many horses?

Air intake and exhaust don't "Add" anything...but they will let you use more of what you have!!
All 98 12V's have the P7100 inline Injection pump...and Manual trannies got the 215hp rating! YES, you need to ket the Killer Dowel Pin taken care of!!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Do you need gauges...only if you value your truck!! Gauges let you know what is going on inside your engine...if you're gonna add fuel, escpecially on a 12v, you need gauges! There is no other way to know how much fuel you just added otherwise!
Help at all?
Chris

I read the post frm gunracer1 on the free GSK. Is there two springs requiring two washers to balance things out?
The other thing is the gauges. I'm sure there are a lot of good ones on the market. Are there many that come close to matching the existing gauges in my 98? Are the ranges about the same. I see a lot of people saying 1600 in near the top side. Is that plenty? Remember just looking for a few horses for now (80-100).

I got my guages from dieselmanor.com. The DTR store also sells them. That way you get gauges and support DTR. Autometer Z series are a pretty close match. I really like my white Isspros though.

I wouldn't even worry about a fuel pressure gauge...unless you like watching one
The 12v engine doesn't have fuel pump issues like the rest of them...they are almost bulletproof!!

Does it matter if I go with the GSK first or the Fuel plate. Will either one make a noticable difference in performance or does it take both? Which one first?

They work together. Plate is more fuel, and a GSK will widen your powerband, because you can rev higher.
If you use the washers to shim your governer springs, and grind your stock plate to a 100, you will have a completly different truck for under a buck!
I did mine at the same time
