Unhappy Just intstalled my Fuel Pressure guage

Just installed my FP guage. Its an Isspro mechanical 0-30 PSI. Works, with no leaks. I am now worried about my pressures. The line has no air that I know of in it.

Idle - 9.5-10
Cruise 6-8
WOT - 3

I just wanted to confirm that these readings look like the lift pump that is soon to be dead.

Also when I purged the stainless steel braided line that goes to the guage of air I had the end poking into a 1 quart bottle. I bumped the starter and got about 1/2 quart. What is the amount that is supposed to come out for the flow test?

well , I am sure you have a reduce line to the gauge , if you had the same size line as the feed to the pump , it should pump 44 oz. for a 25 second run on the lift pump , if you bump the starter , the lift pump will run about that amount of time .

If this gauge is post filter replace the filter then recheck the gauge. If the gauge is pre filter replace it today. Those pressure are too low. IMHO.

$150 for a LP or $1,500 for a IP.

Sounds like your LP I think you would notice the truck low on power if your filter was pluged enough to drop your pressure 5 psi. I ran pre and post gauges and never seen more than a 1psi drop. Not sure about the 2001s,do you have two outlets to test from? Good luck

My ISSPRO Mech. gauge (post fuel filter) has always read a little low, maybe 1 psi...but not like what your getting!
Agree with above...Fuel Filter or lift pump....or both.

Fuel filter was changed 3 months ago. I am getting the pressure reading from a tapped hi flow banjo bolt at the VP44. I will be changing the lift pump soon. I would hate for the VP44 to die.

For you guys that don't have a fuel pressure guage, get one. My 01 is 3 years old, I didn't think it would have a dying lift pump already. Checkl your pressure often.

Looks like I need to change my fuel filter again too.
Noticed today that pressures while running are reading about 2 psi lower than normal.
I can pull it down to 9 psi @ WOT.

This is the main advantage of having gauges folks.
You learn what's "Normal" for your truck, then you can watch for variances that might signal that it's time for some preventive maintenance.
Beats hitting the key @ OMG in the morning and not hearing the Cummins roar to life.

Something like 15K on my present filter. My pressure hasn't dropped but about 1/2 click, but the needle is starting to bounce a little at idle. Will change the filter next week.

crobtex, I believe your LP may be telling you something if the needle is bouncing at idle. Keep an eye one it, thats how mine started to act before I replaced it.

Shovelhead, Could not agree more! Guages show you trends that can save you big bucks.

J.R. My fuel pressure was almost exactly the same.....it was still under warranty so i took it into the dealer and they changed it out. They also do the flow test and evidently it failed miserably.

Chadt, there is only one Dodge dealer here on Guam. I don't even think they have a diesel mechanic.

Well....
After changing the fuel filter, it looks like the pressures are still lower than I'd prefer, all though not critical yet.

Looks like I'll be adding a new lift pump to my Christmas list to Santa TOP.
