$200 for a gauge or $1000 + for a VP.
You decide.
I would pony up the $200 and be assured my VP was well fueled.
I found a Dipricol from Diesel Manor for a good price. Wont match your Autometers but.... $1000 VP.........

I think I spend more on my fuel system than any other one mod and it was worth it!

You need the f-1 cam to run it, but its a cummins mechanical lift pump =P
Tim's in Norfolk and he's done them. Olee probably does too.

30psi gauges are good for 24-valvers, but 12-valvers need at least a 40psi gauge, or even better a 60psi.

Here are the factory fuel pressure specs for a 12-valve:
17-22psi at idle
25-35psi at 2500 RPM no load.
Yup! 12 Valve p-pump! I figured the 30 psi gauge wasn't enough. So my other option is 100psi or get a gauge that doesn't match. Guess I could fill my third pillar hole w/ an Optix tranny temp and mount a non-matching fp gauge elsewhere if I need a 60psi.

ANother question- Checked out Diesel Manor and Geno's and they sell the high pressure line from pump to isolator but it's only for a 98 & up. Does the 12 v setup not use that line?

On a 12-valve you either have to tap (1/8 npt) the banjo bolt on the p-pump's fuel inlet, or use the bleed plug on top of the fuel filter. Here is how mine is set up:

P-pump <-- tapped banjo bolt <-- 1/8 needle valve <-- 1/4 rubber hose to the fender <-- 1/8 copper tubbing <-- 60psi gauge

If you can tap for an EGT gauge, then you can tap the banjo bolt, its very easy. You have to use a needle valve, just barely open, otherwise the pulsation from the fuel pump will kill your gauge. I got the 1/4, 300psi rubber hose from Geno's garage, its good for diesel. I ran this rubber hose from the needle valve to the fender, then from there I ran 1/8 copper tubbing to gauge inside the cab. I had to use the rubber hose, otherwise the copper tubing would crack from the vibration. I like the copper tubing better than plastic tubing or stainless line. My gauge is under dash, that way if there is ever a leak, it will just drip on the floor mat, and not all over the dash. I used the $10 water pressure gauges from here:

I love these gauges, they are only $10, 60psi just right for a 12-valve, Auto Meter Industrial, all metal, and made in the USA. I don't care that it says Water Pressure, I just made a label that reads Fuel Pressure.

Has anyone heard of the quality on these Stewart Warner gauges from Summitracing? I'm thinking about getting a 60 psi fp gauge now.

Jegs has some of their own brand fp gauges too for under $20.

I ordered that "water pressure" gauge just the other day from Surplus Center. The ones that Summit sells for $200 either have an isolator in the line to keep fuel from being in the cab or they are full sweep electrical ones which are also pricey so you can't make a fair comparison between them and a standard mechanical pressure gauge. However, even the "cheap" ones from Autometer are $40+. I've had some experience with Stewart Warner gauges over the years and I've got nothing but good stuff to say about them.
