Just bought an HX35 and need a little help.
Just got an HX from a friend off a 97 12 valve. It is different than a 24 valve Hx. First, the down pipe mounts directly to the turbine hsg with a band clamp. Not like a 24 valve that has a cast iron elbow that has a flange mount. Next the compressor hsg doesn't have a connection for the hose that goes to the wastegate actuator. Where does it go connected on a 12 valve Hx35? I have seen other turbos that have that connection on the flat boss on the comp. hsg where the tag is that saysits an hx35.I am planning on running it first and then turning into a Hx35/40 hybrid. Also, which of the Hx 35's has the wastegate mounted on the compressor hsg? Need a little help from the guys who have more experience with these turbos than me.

Youll need to get the elbow for that charger or if the rear section where exhaust exits unbolts, unbolt it and get a elbow that bolts on. The wastegate line hooked over near the plentum on the head on a 12v so if you remove the intake housing on the charger and drill and tap a 1/8in pipe thread in it youll be able to put a boost elbow in it to hook up the gate.

I bought an adjustable elbow a while back in anticipation of what I am doing now so I guess I just need to drill and tap the housing then.

No I dont think it will. The HY uses differant connections to keep it together. Thats whay you cant make a HY/HX hybrid. Really the HY is only good on a stock truck. Its so limited to building it up in any way.

I thought you didn't make the HY a hybrid because the turbine side of the turbo sucked. Is the elbow different than an Hx? I am going to look at my turbo right now and see if I can tell if it is the same or not.

The elbow that bolts onto the turbine housing with 5 bolts looks the same to me. As soon as the gasket I ordered for that hsg comes in, I will know for sure.

the HY rear elbow WILL bolt directly on to the exhaust housing of the HX, its the same bolt pattern.
my HX (WHCI) came the same way, it had the band clap end on it, I switched it for the HY end. I just re-used the steel gasket, it has no leaks. I seem to remember having to cut some of the center section out of the gasket as it, interfers with the wastegate, you will see exactly what I mean when you take it apart.
I also had to file a little off of the oil drain flange as it was just touching on the housing, you might not have that issue.
a better turbo than having a hybrid 35/40 is susposed to be a HE351 from a 04.5 and up truck. do a search for this info
I have a HE351 that I got for cheap, just have not gotten around to installing it yet.

Yup I checked it it will fit. I was going to put the turbo on this weekend but had a little accident. A pick up going down the freeway on the other side lost their rear wheel and it flew over the median, circled around, and nailed my truck at the passenger side front part of the bedwhile I was doing 70 MPH. It bent my bed, destroyed the fender and sheared the bolt in the center of the springs and moved the rear axle back 2". Got the insurance all lined up but my trucks going to be out of commission for a week or so. Let yall know how the truck runs when I get it back and the turbo on.
