Just about to buy a 96 215 HP 5 sp, ideas on mods?

After owning a ton of first gens I'm thinking I'm going to try out a 215 hp second gen, I found a 96 4x4 3.54 5 sp CC 2500 I might buy. The owner claims to get a consistent 18 mpg right now, the truck is stock. I'd like to still get good fuel mileage if I drive w/ a light foot. Besides boost/pyro guages, tabbing the KDP and a BHAF or equivalent I was thinking of doing an exhaust, camplate, new valvesprings, and a GSK. It will mostly be for driving empty and towing up to about 6500# on flat ground. I also have a II 62/12 I was going to use on one of my firstgens but I'm thinking of using it on this instead. Does anyone make 5" downpipes w/ an HX40 flange, and is a 5" straight pipe exhaust(full length) much louder than a 4"? Does anyone sell a whole exhaust that includes the HX40 flanged downpipe or do you have to buy it separately? Would stock injectors still work OK w/ the 62/12? Which plate should I use? Which GSK? How much power am I looking at w/ these mods and a stock turbo(with a 14, 16 or 18.5 housing) or w/ the 62/12? Thanks

I have a 4in dp and 5in straight pipe past the rear tire, and when I'm on level 5 on my Edge attitude w/ juice at WOT, my friends say I rumble their inards. I would say its a deeper tone to answer your question.

All I have done for power is 0 plate 3/4 forward and the afc housing a bit forward and it goes pretty good. I can own my friends 91 with exaust man, some turbo housing, and fuel pump done to the nuts. 5 inch exaust is just a whole lot deeper I think, record for me is 4 car alarms in one afternoon

I've had 4" straight on a firstgen before w/ BHAF, turned up pump etc but that truck still had a stock turbo. If I go 5" and end up w/ the 62/12 or larger on it I wonder if that would make it any louder. I wonder if there is anything at all to gain performace wise w/ a 5"?

Injectors ... 370's are really good for the $. The troops make better for way more $. The better ones give more power & less smoke & less EGT.

Plate ... I've had a bunch on my 96, 12v, 5 speed. The reason I designed the 100, Joe D built it, was EGT control. I took out a 0 plate in favor of the 100. The 100 not only controls EGT better but accelerates better So, I'd grind up a 100 or use a 10. The 100 works great in the smaller pumps too, w/o the EGT issues. We've put them in 94/95 5 speeds with no other mods & EGT is ok.

I went back & forth, putting on turbos & injectors. The 215 pump really puts out the fuel & I was either under fueled or over fueled. These hogged out Don M 370's are nasty huge & over fuel the PDR40. Towing is easy, just control EGT with the right foot.

Just my guess is a budget set of new 370's & the 62/12 is a great match. I'd call HTT/II.
