Installing A Jacobs Exhaust Brake
So since Oregonians are getting a tax kick back check this year I think I will finally do my exhaust brake I want to get it before I haul some cows. So any who what all is involved with installing on it looks really really simple. Thanks in advance. As far as every things goes on the pneumatic deal I know one hose goes to the actual brake but were is the second one is it a vent??

Ya I have seen first hand two BD ones fail and not hold and pac brakes seem to expensive and over priced. The Jacobs I have used in 3 different trucks and never had one fail. Both the Pac and the Jake hook in to the ecm. I got out the door for a little under 700 with shipping and no shifter switch.

Im pretty sure the BD switches will work with the Jake (although I havent tried it myself):
http://www.bd-power.com/ram/index.php - Page 21 of the Amerian Catalogue. I believe you can also use a two speed axle switch but mounting it to the shifter is a bit of a problem.

Just call up a BD dealer and get the shifter switch. They offer two types: the old red hat style push/pull switch, or the new rocker switch.
Personally I still like the old red hat style.
It's been a few years since I've had a Jacobs, but I remember on mine one hose tapped into the factory vacuum tee, and the other hose went to the Jacobs brake. The pneumatic solenoid had a vent built onto the body.

I'm working on doing the same switch setup as Blackdiesel's...maybe get it done this weekend.
Also, I may be able to get my hands on another switch...so I'll post back if I do.
btw, the install of the Jacobs brake is very straightforward....shouldn't be a problem if you have any wrenching experience at all. You might want to spray the stock exhaust elbow bolts with PB Blaster or some other penetrating lube the night before...they can be a bit rusty.

I have the Jacobs push/pull shifter mount switch & love it. Another good mod is the pedal switch, it is way faster than the ecm controlled. I got my switch from Advanced Diesel Technology 304-864-3399. Tell him Jamie sent you down.
