Jacobs e-brake

Has anyone seen the "fingertip" control for the Jacobs e-brake? From what I can gather, it's only available for 2003 models. Check here and let me know what you think. Gauges, brakes, exhaust, edge easy or pulse Way too many decisions!

Re:Jacobs e-brake

Well I'll be a (blankety blank blank). They copied my idea on the two speed rear end switch. That's exactly what mine looks like. I should go after them for patent infringement. They would probably win though since they used a black **** and I used a red one. My red **** looks better on the gear shift. Oh well, another million dollars lost.

If it works like mine, it is definately worth while if the price is not too outrageous. Mine was about $12 at NAPA.

Re:Jacobs e-brake

I have a jacobs on my 02 and would like to know about your switch you put on your shifter. I like that idea better than having it on my knee bolster.

Re:Jacobs e-brake

I had a pacbrake on my 99, it was sweet. Dangit, my new 03 is an auto, there goes that Idea. My 03 Chevy c4500 has one that is a factory installed option and it only cost $300 bucks, it works great.

You saw how well it works when I was out there if the guys have any questions. I just went to the NAPA dealer looking for a switch that would work and look cool. Tried several different ones. I looked through about 12 different switches and he asked me what I wanted. I said something like the old two speed rear end switch. He said why didn't you say that in the first place? Got a whole shelf full of them lying back here. Some vibration will come up the gear shift lever and make it rattle at certain rpms. I solved that by adding a drop or two of Loctite to the point where the shaft goes into the body of the switch. Wala, no more noise. (for a while) I just wired it into the lead to the solenoid under the hood to act as an interrupter switch. Called Jacobs and they said fine.
(thinks that is where they got the idea for the 03s)

Just used two different metal wire loom clamps and a bolt to hold it to the lever. Ground the bolt flush with the nut with my handy dandy little Dremmel tool. Works like a champ.

Make sure you leave a small loop of wire at the bottom of the gear shift like I didn't do. The wires broke on me at the worst time, coming over Afton mountain loaded to about 23000 pounds. Had to make an emergency stop to fix that for sure.

Plus, it makes people ask you if you have installed a two speed rear. Some that don't know any better, I say YEP. Then when they look underneath and see that big honkin Mag-Hytec cover with the wires coming out of the rear end (ABS wires), they just know I am telling the truth.

Coolness......... Drats, foiled again.

Re:Jacobs e-brake

I have the Jacobs on mine and love it, would never do with out. Is there any maintenance requirments on the brake itself, I remember someone saying that the shaft that operates the butterfly needs lubed every now and then, if so what type of lube.
