j-hook or turnbuckle

well i have a j-hook currently. so today i decided to try the turnbuckle ideal today. with the j-hook i hit 24 PSI but with the turnbuckle i hit 36 PSI on my first try and 32 PSI on my second try. is this healthy for the stock HY-35 turbo? will it contribute to its death faster? i dont know if i wanna try the turnbuckle, it spools up quicker and gets a higher peak boost. also is this ok for the headgaskets?

I'm, wondering the exact same thing, i dont really feel like spending 50 bucks on a glorified spring, but i also dont want to pop a head gasket.
psd tuner, how exactly do you put on a turn buckle? I know what it does and how it works but do you have a picture on what it hooks onto, i dont wanna get down there and hook it onto something thats gonna bind up or break.
Also, dont mean to steal the thread here but, would it be possible to cut the little metal line and put a boost controller on it with 2 little peices of rubber hose?

well ill put it back on and take a pic. it just goes over the lever for the wastgate and the housing for it. the only thing it could bind with is the rod of the wastgate actuator i just ran my j-hook and the turnbuckle beside the rod. its just kinda challenging getting it on there and adjusting it so you dont over boost.

I'm runnin the Bully Dog adjustable J-hook on my truck. I have it set at about 40psi right now with my Adrenaline, YES, I know that's to high but I turned it back once and I just haven't turned it down anymore since then. It's a PITA to get to.
I've been runnin mine like that for about 6 months now with the Adreanaline, other than havin to watch my EGTs, it seems to be OK for now.

I ran my HY#% with the Bully Dog J-hook and also with the turnbuckle. I had the turnbuckle on fo about 4 months until I got my BD turbo. I never had any problems with the little HY at all, just as stated watch the EGT's I would see in excess of 1600 degrees. I went to the hardware store and bought two of them and swapped parts so I could use the hook end on both ends. If you do this just watch so you get the threads on the right end so it can be used, Right and Left threads. Here is a pic of one on a turbo already, just remember to look at the position of the turbo off the truck. Yes they are a PITA to put on.

So a turn buckle is fixed, are you mounting it loosely so the WG won't open all the way? or just not letting the WG open at all? I realize test drives and adjustments are neceesary here just likin the idea.

Thanks

The turnbuckle is a no movement item. The J-hook allows a little movement when pressure builds.

Most recommend not pushing the HY beyond 35psi. I had the turnbuckle then went to a j-hook, however went with TSTs version which is much cheaper than alternatives. I regularly hit 29psi with the j-hook which is right at the upper limit of where I'd like to push the little HY.

I installed the j-hook, bottomed out the threads, and was only able to get about 28psi. Installed a high teck turnbucke and saw 38-40psi for 2 years without problems. Not saying everybody will have good luck with it.

sorry i hadnt been on here in a while, i see i didnt have to post a pic cause somebody already did. but i am have both the j-hook and the redneck injuneird turn buckle. the only thing i had to do to the turnbuckle is to get a torch and heat the end that had the loop and i bent it into a hook. the hardware store i bought it from didnt have a two hook turnbuckle. i am hitting anywhere from 32-36 psi max, depends on when the tranny shifts and what rpm i am at. so with me pushing this turbos' limits would i have a problem with EGT cause i dont have a pyro. but with just the bully dog j-hook i only hit 24 psi max but now like stated before i am runing 32-36 psi.

why cant you just tie a coat hanger around the flaper end of it and then tie the other end of on a stationary point like the alternater bracket
