J-hook, Boost elbow, help?

What are they, and where can I get one? If I am correct, they both increase the boost of the stock turbo, right? I have an '02 with an auto, so I have the HY turbo right? Which one would I use and what are the differences?

Sorry about the newby question, but I now have my adrenaline and think I could use more than the 20psi of boost that im making now to help burn all that fuel.

yes and use a small turnbuckle instead of a j-hook.

Is a turnbuckle better than a J-hook? And where do I get one? Im sure these things do something to keep the wastegate closed, but have no clue how they work, so any and all explenations would be appreciated. Thanks

a turnbuckle does the same thing, just cheaper. any hardware store should have one.

i think its 6". they just keep the wastegate from opening to soon.

thanks guys. I read your thread Spooled142 and replied with this same question. Do you just install it so its tight or do you have to do some adjusting till you have the boost you desire? Also, will this lower my EGT's or raise them? I know more air will burn more fuel and should drop EGT's, but that will also raise drive pressure and in turn EGT's, right? Oh, and how much boost can the stock head bolts and gasket handle?

For the tranny question. yes, the tranny will most definately slip with the addrenaline. If you hammer it on level ten off the line, the tranny doesnt even know what to do, engine will hit rev limit because the tranny wont grab 2nd fast enough. I have no doubt that I have excelled my transmission wear by about five years in little more than a month! It will not last long at this rate!

Highrlr-- nice to see a NODaker on here. I lived in Bismarck for quite awhile, and my Dad still lives there.

The turnbuckle is the way to go. What you are doing is mechanically preventing the wastegate valve from opening as it will try to do when it sees 20psi or so.

Make sure you don't let the turbo hit more than 35psi or so, that's really pushing that little turbo too far.

Also, you have to account for ambient temps in how far is "safe" to push the turbo. 35psi in the dead of a ND winter is not working that turbo very hard. But 35psi in thin mountain air in CO might be enough to make it blow up.

Where are you living at now then HOHN? I enjoy living here, but I am an avid hunter/outdoorsman so that helps alot!

I would be more than happy with around 30-32psi. I have heard that 35psi is max for these turbos and I dont want to push my luck! My stock auto is hating life already the way it is anyway. I am mainly hoping it will help cool the EGT's a touch for now.
