I think that the j-hook is for autos and the boost elbow is for manuals. So if you have an auto the j-hook. It has something to di with the type of turbo that the truck has. The autos have a diffeerent turbo then the manuals.

The J-hook is for the HY-35 turbos which are on the 01 and 02 auto tracks. This is due to the line being metal on this turbo. A boost elbow is what you want to use on the HX-35. This turbo was used on the 98.5-00 trucks and the 01 and 02 manual tranny trucks.

yup, adam has it nailed. 99 auto youll have the same HX as the manual. grab you a boost elbow. not only is it easier, but its also a cleaner way of doing things IMO.

Yes that is what it will do, only issue with not having a fueling box of some sort on your truck. The boost elbow will increase the boost amount but once it gets to 18lbs the truck will start to defuel. To get the full gaines of the boost elbow you will want to get some type of boost fooler or a fueling box that does the boost fooling.

I just read your profile and I see you have a Superchips programmer. I believe it does boost fooling so a boost elbow will be very beneficial in that case.

The Smarty does boost fooling, but yes you will need a j-hook for the HY-35 turbo on your truck. There is a lot of HX-35's floating around, that would be a good mod to start off with your truck.

I would recommend atleast EGT, Boost, and Fuel Pressure cauges. Its not needed but being your truck is aun auto I would get a Tranny Temp also. I mounted my Fuel Pressure in the cubby hole on the dash and I have the EGT, Tranny Temp, and Boost on the pillar.
