.............Is there any advantage to putting 1 on my 2001 ram 2500 4x4 diesel? it apparently holds the wastegate closed........have EZ edge, holley blue pump, performance upgrades to the tranny as well as a tripple disc billet converter, AFE air filter.....also the previous owner crimped shut the solid tube on the turbo as he couldnt install the boost elbow......thanks.......kim.....

 

The advantage is that it will allow you to build more than 20psi ish of boost. It may help a bit with egts but isnt really going to give you more power. If the PO crimped the hardline shut I dont think you need the jhook as it accomplishes the same thing. If you are seeing over 20psi boost the crimp is doing what was intended (to keep the wastegate from opening). If you are not seeing over 20psi at least at times of hard accelleration etc the crimp may not be working as intended (not crimped shut enough) in which case the j hook would take care of it.

With just an EZ you might see 23-25psi on a hard pull or max acceleration. I know on my 01 auto with an ez and rv injectors max boost I would see with that combo was 28psi which is really at the useable limit of the little hy 9cm turbo anyway(yes than can produce more but the heated air overcomes the advantage of the pressure).

Also the Hy turbo with the hardline would not accept the boost elbow hence the j-hook, crimping the line or a variety of other methods to keep the wastegate from opening.
