It looks like the 98.5-'99 were hurt by the Comps due to the vane pump trouble in the VP those years.
A good fuel system feeding the VP is necessary and you have to be able to keep an eye on it with a lift pump fuel pressure gauge.

I've had my pump tapped more times than certain people in certain occupations and I've got almost 120k on the original one. I've run a edge comp, a drag comp for a brief time, a tst, and now a TST COMP which is pretty violent on the top levels. The pump is going to go out. It's not a matter of if but when. The box may cause it to fail earlier but on the same token it might not. I say tap the wire and have fun.

Chapter President
If i had to do it all over again i would not have tapped the wire! I would have bought the Stealth cover, looks much easier and makes a better connection.
Fuel systems help a lot over the crappy stock LP by itself. They are prone to fail often and if you don't have guages you'll be left in the dark until dooms day. Then it usally is not long for the VP44 to fail from lack of fuel. As far as which system to get, do your homework and make your own decision. Because everybody thinks the one they have is better than the other one.
