Installing an Hour Meter-- anyone done it?

I've got the autometer one in my truck (bought it from diesel manor I believe). It's easy to install and is quite helpful to better schedule maintenance in my opinion.

I remember that Cummins had a box that you could buy for about 800 bucks that would do all sorts of stuff like this, hours, in-depth realtime data, etc. I don't think it ever took off for our small trucks. I believe it was called the RoadRelay. However, I believe they still have the same features in their quickcheck. I think the QC uses a palm based software to address the same sorts of parameters.

I just use the overhead Hr meter.. normally 100hrs is about 4500-5000miles.. Lots of Highway miles...
I thought the ECU had a built in hourmeter.. Should be able to read it off CAN data... I'm interested to see if something like the Quad Commander can read this information...

Just a plain ole guy
I belive they all have hour meters built in. 2000 and up, you can hold the trip reset button down and turn the key on. All the gauges will go thru a test cycle, and the odometer will display several things. One is total hours since it was brought to life at the factory. Pre 2000 needs a dealer scan tool to read them. it also counts how many times you've started your truck since birth. (key cycles)
