Installed the Walbro yesterday.

Finally found time to put on the Walbro, cut the fuel line just ahead of the tank, short box 2001,kinda limited space, took out a foot of it, put the Walbro in then a relief/regulator, ran a return line from regulator back to the vent tube on the fuel filler pipe,t ed into the vent line, unplugged the OEM LP and used the wire to trigger a relay to power the Walbro, never changed anything else,am pumping fuel thru the OEM LP but am not running the OEM LP,then thru the OEM filter then to the inj. pump. Set the regulator so had 16 psi on gauge at the inlet of inj. pump, lots of return to tank from the regulator, lots of return from the return line on the inj. pump, pressure holds at 16 psi no matter if idling or WOT. Regulator can be set from 0 to 50 psi, Walbro will put out 80 psi or more.

Got my Walbro off Ebay,$110.00 with some fittings, regulator is an old pressure setting valve from a old field sprayer, Tee-Jet i think, 1/2 in.

Excuse my ignorance on these Walbro pumps, I didn't like the way all the older threads on it were going so I just stopped reading them. I thought the Walbro that was being tauted as oh so great was a mechanical pump. The install you describe here is no different than my electric pump that I was told was such junk and could never keep up with the fuel demands. Not trying to sound negative here but I'm confused.

The Walbro is indeed an electric inline pump, but it is a better quality unit than the one that Cummins puts on the truck. If you work on Ford Powerstroke trucks, you'll notice that their lift pump operates at a higher pressure, supplies more flow, and yet never seems to fail. That lift pump is a frame mounted electric pump, I believe it's made by Bosch, and is designed a lot like the Walbro 392. If I had a 24 valve truck, I'd be happy to have either of those pumps. They'll supply enough fuel to handle large performance mods too.

Does this mean that the Ford fuel pump, would be the best replacement for the 24 valve trucks?

Best?? everyone will have their opinions... The Walbro requires an external Regulator.. so it will take a little more plumbing..

It is definitely a decent choice, but it would also require a regulator, and is probably twice the price if the Walbro. Whether it's BETTER than the Walbro, I really couldn't tell you.

What type of pressure regulator would need to used?

I have a friend that works in a Ford dealership, that will let me have his discount on parts.

The Walbro does not require a regulator. You can plumb a 5/16" or 1/4" (not sure which) bypass from the feed to the return line. This way you'll see 17 psi (approx.) at idle and no less than 13 at WOT. All the regulator allows you to do is see steady, constant pressure ... which is what I'd like to see!

I'm sure if you do a search on the Walbro pump you'll find all of Superduty's posts. He's the one who first started promoting the pump and is still perfecting its application on the Cummins.

I'm quite certain he used the GSL392.

Dodge Demon, are you telling me that you mounted the regulator back by the LP on the frame and you're still seeing steady, consistent pressures? Please give me some feedback as to how it's holding up. I was going to install my regulator closer to the VP, but if you're getting consistent pressure back there, then what the heck!
