installed my dana powr-lok today...

Hello all, I started on my diff this morning at 9 am at the shop today thinking it would be an easy install, but at about 4:55 pm I was finnally adding the rear end juice. My question is this... Do I need to add any kind of friction modifyer or somthing??? Any comments are welcom.

P.s Did I mention how heavy the powerlock is when you need to set the proper back lash for the 14th time in a row.

If it's a Lock Right, that's a locker and not a limited slip - no additive needed. If it's a Powr-Lok, it is a limited slip and you do need additive. Comes in 8 oz. tubes, add one and see if it makes clunking noises while doing slow figure 8's in a parking lot. If it's still noisy add another tube.

the diff I got is a powr-lok and I got it from www.reiderracing.com and told them what I had and what I wanted. Also ask them for a set up bearing kit too.

wanna, do I just add normal friction modyfier or is it a specific type?

p.s. congrats on the Truck of the month

Use what you can get. Dodge sells it in a little bottle, at chain auto parts stores it comes in a tube, like toothpaste almost. This makes it much easier to add than the little bottle. It comes out like STP, you just remove the fill plug, stick the tip of the tube in and squeeze. Check your gear lube bottles first, a lot of gear lubes come with the friction modifier already added.

Thanks, I still can't believe my truck is the TOM.

Hello jimjaws. Did you have any trouble pulling the diff. I've never done a dana 80 before, mostly 44's and ford 9 inchers. I imagine you need a diff spreader for that beefy of housing?!

You ain't kiddin'! The best way I can describe it is it smells like rotten grapefuit. I got in major trouble for rebuilding the diff in the basement.

I ll tell you this, I am a master volvo tech and certified diesel tech and the next dana 80 I deal with will be dropped off at a shop for some other poor soul, who will be paid to fuss with it. I'm sorry but it was way more trouble than the $200 it would of cost me to take it to Matsco tranny down off of central and 6th. Very heavy and quite stinky. But if you are a reall go getter wrench it should be no problem.

P.s I love the powr-lok, worth every penny of credit card dept.

How much did the P-lok set you back? I've been thinking about one myself.

Thanks,
Chris

I love it and it cost about $718 total. Thats machined, set up bearings, new bearings, shipping and even stickers. I would totally do it again. Reider racing is way cool.
