installed fuel presure gauge

Well I installed a Westach 0-16 fuel pressure gauge last week that I got from Geno's. I got the black plastic from them for mounting the gauge in the cubby to the right of the stereo. I also got a bracket for mounting the sending unit. Both of these items worked great. The gauge looks like it was built into the truck.

Now my question. When my truck is at operating temperature idle (around 190) I read about 10.5 pressure. Going down a level road and around 60 with the tach near 2000 I read 8-9. When I really drop the hammer on the skinny pedal and get the tach right at redline the gauge read just below 5. I never do this but decided too, to see what the gauge would read. So what do you think about my fuel pressure?

Remember I'm a newbie so please spell out any acronyms. thanks

That sounds alittle low, but I have a 260 gallon per hour lift pump so any thing below 15 is low to me. I am not sure for a stock lp though.

Guess what dude, you need a lift pump. You don't ever want to see below 5 psi.

Is your setup post fliter or pre filter??

Personally I'd just go ahead and replace that pump.

Well that's what I was afraid of that it might be low. But that's why I got the gauge. Mine is post filter I used the hose from Geno's to connect to the test port on the Vp44. Is my pressure really bad or just a little weak, in other words do I need to replace the lift pump yesterday?

I think I read that the lift pump is not too hard to replace, is that true, any special tools? I'm not real good at this work but I have a buddy that is.

I'd replace it ASAP. I think the general rule is the VP should never see less than 5 PSI under any circumstances.
