Input shaft question
Well I am going to start laying some power down, I have 370s and 191 dvs in the garage. Will I have enough power to break the input shaft? I bought the truck with a bd tranny in it and it has held up fine as long as I have had it. When I go to the track I leave with about 10lbs of boost and in 4wd. I have just heard of people breaking them and I want to be cautious because I know billet inputs are expensive.
Thanks

Don't know the BD Tranny components very well, but I can tell you what Bill K. from DTT told me when I asked the same question (at 350 HP).
Under 10 psi will probably be ok... for a while. Some guys get 100-200 power brake starts without hurting anything...and some break the imput shaft on the first try. It's a crap shoot.
Wait till you get billet, IMO, unless you feel lucky and have the money ready to spend when, not if, things break. That's just my conservative $.02.

If you are locking the Torque Converter, or leaving with boost, you seriously risk breaking an input shaft. You should be ok at 10PSI,,, but, like RJ said,, it's a crap shot.
Good luck...

What does it break when the input shaft goes? Converter, front pump or what? I know its risky but I am going to test my luck and it will be my fault if it goes.

I think there is a post somewhere that an input shaft broke, took the converter, pump and the CASE!!
Others it is only the shaft.
Not having the billet input shaft is like buying a lotto ticket---you can feel sure you will loose!!!

While I'm sure the launches aren't exactly the best on them another killer of the input shafts seem to be pulling heavy loads with a modded truck and exhaust brake. I guess they don't appreciate the ~600hp forward and ~180hp braking again and again.

My input shaft broke...rather, the gears stripped off. Luckily nothing else was harmed. I couldn't get a replacement billet shaft in a reasonable time, so I just put back a stocker and promised myself that I would be careful.

I stripped the splines off mine.
Simple replacement. Got a DTT Billet shaft with more splines, for less money than a Billet OE designed shaft from another competitor.
If you snap your input shaft in two, most likely you will need a new torque converter, and shaft. There is a possibility of it ruining your pump also.
You might get lucky, and only strip the hub/splines out of it, and then it's only pulling the VB, the pump, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear out of it, popping a new input shaft (replace the clutchs,, it should cost you less than $30 for all 3 gears), put the trans back together, and put it back in the truck.
