Re:Injectors worth the money????

Injectors are great!!!

Here's my recipe: DD3 injectors, a manual boost controller (on 98 ETC NV4500 motor), homemade boost-fooler (avoid timing cut at 2700RPM), and South Bend MU 090 clutch.

We dyno'd this combo last week and the truck put down a respectable 297 RWHP and 585 ft-lbs. On a Mustang Dyno which was supposedly calibrated to match Dynojet numbers.

I wanted to avoid a fueling box because of the notoriously weak VP44 pump - this truck has 200,000 original miles on the original pump!

The homemade boost-fooler is a clipping circuit that limits the MAP sensor voltage to 2.0 volts...

Interesting things from our dyno pulls: We *DID* run an O2 probe up the exhaust... this probe measures Oxygen and air mass coming out the exhaust, so it's actually a valid observation. The motor runs rich at idle (9 or 10:1) but then runs a tad leaner than gassers under power (19:1). The most interesting thing we discovered is that the "Fuel Cut" that's so talked-about at around 2700RPMs is *NOT A FUEL CUT AT ALL." It's a Timing Cut. At 3200RPMs, the mixture is still 19:1, indicating there's the same quantity of "whatever" cmoing through the exhaust until you lift off the pedal... meaning the power is cut by timing, not fuel. I'm sure that will raise a few arguments, but seems pretty clear to us.

Anyways, this truck is a blast to drive on the street, not too crazy but definitely woke it up a bit.

I'm told an EZ to advance the timing during WOT would be a healthy boost in power. -scott

So if my truck had 235hp and 460 lbs.torque stock the EZ should put it up to 300-645.If I put in 75 hp injectors would I get 375 hp,or is the 75 hp just when adding to stock?Would that require a pusher pump?New clutch?THANKS!!!
[/quote]

No it doesn't quite work like that. The 235hp is the flywheel rating. The EZ will add 25 to 30 peak hp (rearwheel)......BUT it would add 65 to 70hp down in the lower RPM range. SO if you add 75hp (rear wheel) then you would be around 300hp most likely to the rear wheels. and 75hp injector....would be roughly a Stage II injector....... were you refering to 275RV injectors? If so they are good for about 40hp to 45hp.

Does that explain it at all or did I just confuse you even more?

Well "Fredro" was running only Stage I injectors, and it made the truck run stronger, but he had no "boost fooler" when he dynoed inejectors only he only showed :
(01 ETH 5th gear)
HP: 233.3
TQ: 558.7
You clould clearly see on the graph and detailsheets it fell flat at 2200rpm (overboost sensed). Plugged in the EZ on the dyno and he promptly turned in
HP: 321.2
TQ: 686.0

But the biggest difference was the drive on the highway when we first put in the box........its REALLY noticable.

Scott, I'll find a way to get an EZ for you to try I think you'll like it alot combined with the III's......................

Re:Injectors worth the money????

wow Eric you don't miss a post!! :-)

How about you find me an EZ to "test" and I'll order up a spare VP pump :-(

what do they go for nowadays? I'd like a ready-to-go injector pump on the shelf so I can abuse the current one without too much worry. Guess I could always get the other car running as a parts car (Z28 camaro 6-spd). The dodge is the daily driver, and also more fun than the camaro!

Today is the day I caught up on sleep from the past week, so I didn't have much planned, other then some phone calls and clean up the apartment.

Not sure when "Fredro" will be able to post again to give his impressions of adding jsut the EZ to his truck. But with how happy he was, I think it will do the same for you. I emailed you with the pump ideas.

Re:Injectors worth the money????

I can say that I am more than happy with the EZ and RV275 combo. Real hard to get the EGT over 1150 on any pull. The difference pulling a heavy trailer is dramatic.

Re:Injectors worth the money????

Any estimates on rear wheel horsepower and torque: stock;with EZ;with EZ and 275 injectors;and with EZ and stage 2's?

Re:Injectors worth the money????

I think trying to guess HP without a dyno is dificult at best. We have seen trucks come off of the lot with as low as 160HP. The same model in a different truck may put down 190HP. No real legitimate reason for this, other than humans build them. As stated earlier there is a dramatic difference between the HP @ the rear wheels and BHP. A truck with an automatic in stock form may be 20% lower in RWHP than a transmission that has been DTT'd, although they would be the same BHP measured at the flywheel. Also, the declared HP gains associated with each BOMB is relative to what is already in place. For example, I have a Superchips Dieseltuner in place in my truck. I know I did not realize 70-80HP from this unit, probably because I already had a Comp box in place. The tuner on another truck that has no mods may have created HP ratings closer to the advertised claims. They say getting to 300-350HP is relatively easy / cost effective. But tell me this, when a Comp box gives up to 120 hp for $700.00, it is dificult to spend the same amount on a set of injectors that may not realize their HP claims even if it does give some HP gain. Trucks are different like people, two ident stock trucks, one might dyno 180 hp and the other could be 200 hp you never know.
Mine stock dynoed 180, with EZ got me 240hp.
With the Comp and 275's I,m at 365 hp
That will give you an rough estimate if you add 10 to 15 hp to yours as it is a 2001 with the 235, mine is the 215hp.
