injectors, injectors,too many choices

posted this on the cummins forum as well:

Ok, I'm going out of my mind, just when I think I have a vender nailed down, I do a search and scare myself off.
What I have now are jammer II's I've driven about 100,000kms on them, they are smokey and hot, anything higher than lvl 2 on edge, hits 1400F BEFORE I hit 60mph! I'm tired of them, its embarassing to be belching smoke every where I go.

I need a better injector that does not smoke and makes good power, I dont plan on any huge turbo plans ,maybe a hx vice the hy that I have now.

I'm thinking 80-100hp range is enough, I like the price of the coaltrain injectors, and the reputation of the ddp's
anyone have any experience when going from jammers to any other injectors,
I'd like to hear from anyone who can shed some light on the subject.
thanks

Why not just PM DonM?

I am reasonably sure he can hook you up without much muss or fuss.

I would watch the classifieds, my last two sets of injectors i have bought used and have had 0 issues. I am currently running mach 4's and like them, plus I think if you get machs they can be sent in cleaned and popped for no charge. Thats how i get the better injectors at the cheaper price

You might want to look at going to a different turbo. If you enjoy the power, why not burn the fuel and bring the egts down? A turbo upgrade will clean up the smoke, bring down the egts and let you enjoy the power you have. It doesn't really matter which injector you go with in the 80-100hp range, you are going to need a turbo. I would try the turbo first, then if you aren't happy with the injectors still, then look at changing them. Just my .02

A turbo isn't gonna fix a crappy tip.

Get some better sticks and go from there. I have the FireBallPro injectors and they burn as clean as my old F1 sticks.

I'd go with DDP or F1.

I'd go to F1 myself. Or you could get a hold of Smokem on CompD. I haven't heard anything but good about his injectors, and he is a good bit cheaper than the rest.

Ive been debating between ddp 3's and F1 mach 2's.
Both brands seem to have the rep that cant be beat. JMO

How much boost are you getting right now with your stock turbo?

So his truck is smokey and hot. He has a hot juice wam a fair sized injector and a STOCK turbo. So a turbo isnt going to help him? Am I missing somthing here? Doesnt matter whos injector you put in there. Don could hand build a set of injectors himself and with the stock turbo it would still be hot and smokey. SO instead of telling him that injectors are going to fix his problem, why not really fix it. I am not in any way saying there arent better injectors out there. But like I said it doesnt matter whos injectors he goes with, without more air he will run into the same problem.

Those Jammer IIs are made by about 50 different people and only a handful are real Jammers. In addition to that, the flow rates are all over the map.

So yes, a properly functioning injector WILL help. I can't speak for any other vendors, but I know what goes into the sticks I am running. EDM and final hone. Best of both worlds. Most guys are just honing injectors and charging a premium price. Nothing like paying tomorrows prices for yesterdays performance right?

And level 2 on the box with those sticks is well within the operating limits of that turbo. Not that he doesn't need a turbo at some point, but a small stick with a low setting on the box and a load will result in horrible performance with a moderately sized turbo. I have seen enough trucks with the exact same issue cured with only a tip swap. Balanced of course.

Funny how a turbo is a fix all for every issue out there.

So far, it's impossible to say since we don't know how much boost he's getting. If he's stuck at 20 or so, different injectors aren't going to be much help.

Good call Joe C.
Doesnt say in his sig if he's auto or manual. HX or HY -35 makes a huge dif.
An HY-35 will be struggling hard tokeep temp and smoke with that much fuel if runnin with box turned up.

I would assume, (only my assumption) its a HY if he's gettin that hot on level 2 with jammer 2's.

I have a hy that hits 28-30max, I realize jammers are pretty low on the injector scale, I plan on a better injector first then move to a better turbo, realizing that this is a daily driven courior truck that sees many hours of use, and I'm not going too extreme, I just want good "clean" power that I can use.

Kantdrive55 is right that HY-35 needs to go. Try something small like the Super B.
