Which Injectors? (I don't ever tow)

I would like to get some BD 110hp injectors, or maybe bigger (130hp). But, is that too big? I know injector questions are asked alot, but I will never be doing any real towing, I just want more power to pass on the hiway etc. So I won't be doing any WOT runs for long periods. I have a van-auken box (I think its the same as edge EZ). 4" exhaust, and pyro gauge, stock turbo.

Also can these big injectors be run at stock boost (22psi)?

Thanks, Ryan

I work in the oil patch, and I have to tow out operators once in a while (usually chevys).

Charlie,

You are still running stock boost pressure? What kind of pyro temps do you see after wot for a few seconds? Are you able to redline your temps if you stay a full throttle?

Anything over 100HP Injector might be too big for what you want to do. 80HP would be about the limit if you dont want to put a boost fitting in or plug the wastegate. Even with around 80HP sized injectors you will get hot on long full throttle runs. Easily hitting 1400 degrees or more.

Not sure which version of the vanakken box you have but i know the older ones did not have a boost fooler built into them. The version that plugged directly into the VP44. If you want that thing to run on the highway throw in 40-100HP injectors add a boost fooler and ad the boost elbow or plug that wastegate.

The BD 110hp or the 130hp EDM injectors with a Super B single turbo you will be able to use all the power all the time with your 60hp box. If you don't want to upgrade the Turbo then I would suggest BD's 90hp EDM injectors. Just so you know with the 90hp set and 60hp box your stock turbo will be max'd out.

I do have have the Vanaken box that just plugs in the VP44. However I won't be making any extended full throttle runs.

I'm really leaning towards the 130hp injectors. If my EGT's get to hot just driving down the hiway I guess I have to get a boost elbow w/ fooler.

BD did all the mods to my truck a couple years ago and said it was good for 340 fwhp, It would sure be nice to have 450+fwhp.

even with boost elbow and fooler you will have excessive egt's with the 130hp injectors. I sell BD diesel performance so I speak from expeirience you will definitely have to control EGT's with your right foot Stock turbo just won't supply enough air for that much fuel

130hp of any brand will not work with the stock turbo. I would stick with a Mach 1.5 or a Mach 1.6 and enjoy the added fuel mileage as well as the power increase.

If all you seek is more passing power, then any 75hp injector or more will give you PLENTY.

With my mild setup, A WOT run at 75 to pass a single big semi results in speeds over 95 before I'm around him. That's plenty when empty!

Some Mach 2 EDM injectors will let you tow almost anything with authority. If you don't tow at all or just very light, then you could probably run up to a 2.4 (about 115hp injector) from Don M.

Injectors in this range will let you tow about any legal weight at about any legal speed. Anything more is just for fun.

I don't tow, and I'm shooting for some hairy mach 3.5s-- the largest that the HO pump can handle! That should fix my low EGT problem:P

Don't forget the clutch. My roommates truck with Mach 1.5's and an EZ is killing his clutch. Much over 1/2-3/4 throttle slips it. With that, straight pipe and a BHAF, his EGT's hit about 1250-1275.

BY the way--

While the stock ECM is configured to not allow more than 21psi, the stock wastegate is set to allow up to 26 psi.

If your Van Aaken has the boost fooler (early models did NOT), then you don't need to mess with the wastegate-- 26psi should be enough for injectors 85hp or less (mach 1.5 or 1.6).

With mild injectors, it's usually best to just block off the wastegate signal with an 1/8" NPT pipe plug. If boost is 31-32psi, it's perfectly safe. Your wastegate will not operate this way, so keep an eye on boost.

I have my wastegate locked shut with a turbuckle, with about 30-32 psi egt's are not a problem

The reason I want to go with a big injector (130hp), is I am planning a turbo, upgrade this summer, and if my clutch gives me trouble, I'll replace that as well.

It just seems like alot of guys get mild injectors, then after they make a few more upgrades, they go to large injectors. I just don't want to waste time & money.
