Injectors causing engine damage?

Well, I am planning on adding Mach 1.6s or maybe bigger to my truck, eventually. And South Bend Con OFE of course

Was talking to a guy that had some work done his 01 ETH(same truck I have) and he shared some interesting info.

Hes a Banks dealer(and yes, I know, I will not buy anything from Banks) and I asked him what injectors he was running.

Told me he won't run different injectors. I asked why and said Bosch injectors and Dr Performance injectors he put in a customers truck gave him problems. He said they wash off the rings, smoke, and let fuel get into the crankcase and give worse fuel mileage. Just not good for the truck he said.

Never having heard of this I asked him about EDM injectors(like Don's) and said he didn't know about those?

Which I found weird.

So are the older Bosch injectors and honed injectors just junk or what?

Never heard a bad thing about the F1 injectors. So, I am still planning on going for them.

Anyone else ever heard this?

Also, are Mach 1.6s what I want? Live at 5,000 ft and drive between 3 and 8 k. Don't tow heavy. Just snowmobile trailers and only in the winter obviously. Maybe a couple ATVs or dirt bikes.

I really don't know if I want a box that taps the pump wire. Seems like that stresses out a pump which is already a weak component. Planning on sticking with the VanAaken. Very happy with it. Also, heard bad things about the reliability of the Comps. With the VanAaken, do I want a bigger injector, like 2s, 3s, or 4s? Heard really good things about the 1.6s and 4s.

Don't have the $$$ to upgrade the HX35. Plus, very happy with how little lag there with the HX.

Your gonna need a bigger turbo. My roommate has the same truck as you and with a comp on 5x5, mach 1.5's, scotty 2 with the hole, 4" straight pipe, and his stock hx35, he could hit 1500* pre turbo pretty easily. As for all that stuff you were told, I'd take it with a grain of salt. If the injectors were really that bad then no one would be running them.

Don't want to run the COMP

Probably will stick with the 1.6s

I would disagree as well. I have the Dr. P stage IV injectors and love them. I get 22 mpg on road trips. They do put out a good amount of smoke, if I want them too. I thought I remember reading somewhere that replacing the factory injectors actually makes these Cummins happier.

I agree too

My buddy has a 98.5 that had DD2s and never had a problem and ran great with a little smoke but improved fuel economy

Wow-- it's amazing how many ignorant inexperienced "local experts" there are out there.

I would bet he was talking about an old 12v and 370's and Dr P. injectors. They will wash the walls on a 12v, but not enought to matter over the life if a Cummins, so I've been told!

I mentioned to the long-time head mechanic "manager" here at the Cummins shop that I was going to be installing a set of bigger injectors in my 24v; he gave me quite the look and informed me that there's "no such thing as bigger injectors for the 24v Cummins" and if there were such a thing that "they would make no difference in performance since the fueling is all controlled electronically".

I'd say second opinions are quite valuable in cases like this.

I haven't talked him into going for a ride in my truck yet...

it amazes me how incredibly ignorant mechanics can be. I've been blown away by a jeep mechanic knowing nothing about lockers and a parts guy @ a diff jeep dealership knowing EVERYTHING possible. Now a cummins mechanic who probably doesn't drive a diesel. scary.

I've run 370's for 2 years now, and I've NEVER seen a drop of fuel in my oil, and it still runs like a scalded dog. The only time I had fuel in my oil was when I burnt a hole through the #6 piston, along with some other not so good things lol.

Actually, he does drive a diesel. A 12v - which he is quite knowledgeable about. He's just not quite as experienced with the 24 valvers and high performance...
