injector?'s

check sig on truck mods. I am wanting to get some injectors. Right now egt's run at 700 degrees at 70 mph and max out at 1100 wot up a large hill. Will 370's put me over the edge with the stock turbo? Should I go smaller say 300's or 330's? If I go with the 300's will my dv's be okay? I need to make a plan and get it done it's driving me nuts!!!!!!

I had 300's & #4 with high EGT's. Had to go to the hybrid. It was useless to have all that power and not be able to use it. 370's don't seem to be much different with respect to EGT's vs the 300's on my truck.

370's

I'm no expert, but I can tell you my experience. With the 370's I do have to watch the EGT if I'm pulling a heavy load and lug the engine. Basically if I keep the RPM's over 2000 I don't seem to have any issue with EGT.

It's an art to pick the right housing. Too big & all you have is preboost smoke & lag.

If you got to piers' site why are the 215 injectors 100$ more than a set of 370's are'nt 215s a stock injector off a newer truck? Is there a size between 215 and the 300's? OR should I just spend the money on some 370s and use the extra 100 bones to get a larger housing? Will that keep me in the safe zone? I dont mind the smoke no emissions testing here!!! I only tow about 7k # max.

I have actually been really considering getting the HX40 turbo from Piers, but I don't really have a problem now and seem to have plenty of power. No doubt I can make smoke before spool up and I can make too much heat if I lug with a big load. However, knowing those two factors I have great power and I'm having a hard time talking myself into money for the HX40. The 370's made a huge difference on my truck but I'm aware that I can't lug it with a load or I'll toast something. I've hauled a Cat 955 highlift several times and have not had a problem as long as I controlled the shift points to keep the RPM's up over 2K. I keep pre-turbo EGT's under 1100 and everything seems fine. I don't try to drag race with that big of a load (16K or more?) but I can tow it at 75mph with cruise set and have only to worry about stopping the load (my trailer brakes be a wee bit weak). I'm sure with the HX40 my truck would be quicker, but as it is I can walk away from most Powerstrokes I've run against (with no load behind me of course!) For speed I have my real (expensive) toy, a '62 Biscayne gold class show car with a 502ci 625hp power plant. Yeah, I'm sure there is likely somebody out there with a CTD who could take it in the 1/4, but not with the budget I'm on!

Yes, I'm cheap. Totally stock. Cranking up the pump and putting the 370's really has given me all I need. The great guys on this site long ago convinced me to get good gauges and watch them and I think that's the trick. I can get great power but with the limitations I mentioned earlier. Hey, it works for me. Now, if someday I was to come across a real deal on the Piers...?

215's are not in a production model that is available now.
The 370's are still coming out in new marine versions.
So they are still in production and mass produced.
The 215's are not massed produced.

The same thing happened with the RV275's a few months ago.
They stopped using them in new motors and the price doubled overnite.

Dargo,,

The '40 will kill your bottom end.

Anything below 1,700RPM, and the turbo just isn't going.

If you are staying below 1,200 * you don't have a problem, in fact, mant people tow at higher EGT's than that. I will hit 1,500 when towing, but only for a short bit. Less than 5 seconds.

The '40 will be laggy. It really is a good turbo, but instead of having to be over 2,000 RPM, you'll have to be over 2,200- 2,300 RPM....

new tricks?

Thanks for the info Merrick. My truck runs really well now, but I want (yes, not need) a little more speed. However, I'm quite paranoid about tearing up a perfectly good engine. I've never played with moving the plate foreword or, as another user inquired, advancing the timing. Kolb diesel, my local shop is pretty darn competent but I don't know if they really specialize in really turning up the Dodges. I'd asked them about changing the timing and they will do whatever I want, but I don't know what I want. Being that I really don't have a heat issue, if I power brake it, I can smoke all 4 rear tires quite well (except on some of that rough concrete and then I just slide the front tires), should I just leave it alone? Or, would a move on the plate or advance on the timing get me a bit more speed. I have a buddy with a 1/2 ton '99 Dodge 4X4 with the 360 gasser in it and he can still take me by just a bit. I know I'm pulling quite a bit more weight than him, but darn it, I'd like to pull him from the line. Believe it or not, from about 65mph up to ??? I can easily run away from him. You see my signature line. Any suggestions?

Get the timing bumped to 15.5*. That ill cool it down and give it more power all around.

Put a 3K GSK, that'll give you more RPM to play with.

Slide the plate as much as your EGT's will allow.

You can hybrid your '35 into a DodgeZilla for less than $500 in parts from City Muffler (vendor here). (Ask for a 61mm (or bigger) compressor)

The DodgeZilla will have near as good spool-up as your '35, but will cool off the EGT more...
