Why not do it yourself? It's really easy. Took me and my roommate about 2 hours total on his truck. And that's because we were going slow and didn't know what we were doing.

A buddy and me did an injector install (RV275's) over the weekend, took around two hours, took some time out to repair knuckles. Hardest part of the whole install was getting to the number six injector. Diesel Dynamic has some very good instructions.

Were there any special tools that you would recommend to make the job easier?

A 19mm crowfoot and a pair of right angle needle nose. Also, I found using a wonder bar to pop out the number 6 worked well.

I went to Diesel Dynamics web sight and did not find anything on installation. Am I looking in the right place?

I got them a while back, I can't remember where I found them, but they where written by someone from DD.

I'll try to give you a brief run down.

Disconnect batt. (optional)

Remove heater grid/air horn and throttle body, move off to the side, don't disconnect any cables.

Loosen clamps for injector line (3)

Loosen injector fuel lines and slide nuts (6) back away from head. Number (6) fuel line will require the use of a 19 mm crowsfoot or a stubby 19mm to loosen the nut.

Remove valve cover bolt and cover. You'll have to press down on heater hose and slide the valve cover towards pass. side.

Remove injector hold down clamps. You only have to remove the forward most bolt on each clamp, the others you just loosen. (2) bolts per clamp.

You'll have to slide the connector tube out away from the injector using a number 1 or 2 flat head screw driver and use a pair of right angle needle nose pliers to pull the injector. Thread one of the short bolts for the air horn into the top of the injector, grasp the bolt with the needle nose and using the rocker arms as a pivot pull the injector out. Repeat same process until you get to number 6.

I had to use a wonder bar to pop the #6 injector out.

I know these aren't too detailed, maybe it will help.

Thanks Mike. I should have my injectors this week. Then I'll try to find time to put in.

Oh, another question. Since I have never been inside the valve cover. Does Cummins use a gasket or other type of seal? Will it need to be replaced?

There is a rubber gasket, no need to replace.

P.S. I would install the number 1 injector first to get the feel of how everything works then move to number 6 as you'll be spend more time on that one. Get the worst one done while your still fresh and not frustrated.
