increasing rear end ride height
I just got my truck back from having a Knapheide 796FJ40 Service Body installed on my truck. I uploaded my first pictures to the gallery. The weight of my truck jumped from 6400 pounds empty to 7600 (4000 front / 3600 rear) pounds empty. I'm very happy that the previous/original owner ordered the truck with the Camper Special Group. Even with the heavy springs, the extra weight squatted the rear end to the point that it sits slightly lower than the front. The factory blocks are exactly 4 5/8" tall. Were there any offered that were taller than this? If not, what is the most professional way to raise the rear? I also want to know if the Bilstein OEM shocks are the hot ticket for a truck that weighs this much all the time. After I get all of my tools and inventory loaded, I'm sure my truck will weigh in at around 8000 pounds.
Thanks.
Roy

Yeah, timbrens wouldn't level the truck out unless you plan on them riding on the axle all the time. They are designed to be 1/2" away so that when you get an auxillary load they act as overloads. They are great, just probably not for this application IMO.

Is it possible to just replace the leaf pack with one out of a 1 ton. That would add the extra leaf and they are available in every scrap yard in the country pretty cheap. I found them for as low as $75.00 for both sides.

When I got hit by the drunk driver, she mangled my top leaf so I got 2 new (salvaged) leaf packs. I took the leaf that was 2nd from the top and added it to the new pack that I put in the truck. It was a free add-a-leaf and it gained me about 1.5" in the back, and it doesn't squat very easy now!!! She rides like a sheet of plywood, but I enjoy it

Get a set of firestone ride rite air bags with onboard compressor. Bought mine off of ebay for 450US and they are awsome. Use my truck to tow alot and can level out my truck with varying amounts of weight, and the ride well its night and day.

Ok,
airbags are a more expensive option, yet i have seen this done before on a truck. Blocks and longer u bolts are the cheapest way to go, add a leafs are possibly the safest and most friendly way to go, or you can also buy the arched springs, which i really dont like the look of. Im not too familiar with airbags but the do look and sound cool lol! ive thought about liftin mine with blocks and longer u bolts... but i cant bring myself to do it..
ON an idiotic note, ive seen ppl that shove HOCKEY PUCKS under the blocks... not too smart i know...

I second that
I love my airbags, my SRW with ABs is as stable as my DRW was without them with the same old 10.5' camper and I can lift the back 4-5" with 100psi And as already said nothing rides like air.

go with the heavier leaf springs that are rated for the weight that your truck is going be all of the time. Air bags are good for those times when you are adding extra weight and need to level the truck.

Airbags are the only way to go. $270US for entire kit with manual fill valves. Infinitely adjustable for any load your truck can handle, best ride, easy install... I pulled the stock overloads out and run the Airlift bags at 5lbs empty, 60lbs with 12k toybox.
What's the downside of these? I haven't seen it yet.
