I want smoke
#17
Don't get me wrong, I understand that smoke is a byproduct of squeezing the power out of these engines, but it seems some people are more interested in smoke than they are the power.
My truck will smoke if I stab the throttle instead of rolling into it, and all I have is my stock plate slid full forward. There's no telling how bad it will get when my #10 and 3GSK comes in from Piers.

Well thank you guys alot! there are only a couple of us around my town that own diesels. One of the older ones said you gotta get it smoking for power, but obviously i want decent mileage. So smoke is not what I want then I would like to invest in gauges. Im thinking bout going with Autometer and having Haisleys install them cause I live like 30 minutes away, but I dont have a alot of money and am not mechanical enough to do it myself. I have done alot to the truck myself already but taping EGT and fuel pressure thats a big deal too me and I want it done right. So how do I go about pushing my fuel plate and such will that increase power? Any help thanks alot guy

Hey SilverHoss99. You don't have a fuel plate. You have a computer controlled electronic injector pump. It's only us lucky guys with pre 98.5 engines that have the fuel plate.
Don't listen to Gotlift01 and myself regarding the black smoke. If you make more power than stock, than you're going to end up barfing out a little black smoke no matter what you do. However, you can control the smoke with your right foot. If you add a lot of fuel, than you'll need to upgrade your turbo to something that is designed to add the boost necessary to efficiently burn the extra fuel.
Spend some time reading this forum and you'll get the hang of it in a hurry.

Yeah I'm not saying smoke is BAD, I just think it's funny how some guys want there truck to smoke as much as possible just because they think it looks cool!!! My truck will smoke like a train when I mash on it, but that's the price you pay with juicin' up your truck!!! But just normal driving around town, it has little to no smoke which I like a lot

I like smoke. I dont want my truck to do it all the time, and sometimes i wish it didnt smoke when i mash it, but thats the price you pay for having a fairly peppy diesel. You dont have anything to spool the turbo with if you dont have any fuel. I also got 22mpg on the way back from Indiana. Just because it CAN smoke doesent mean it has to. And who says you need stacks??

I just ordered a van aaken and jammer III's monday. Dumb question and probably a little late now but am I going to be able to control the smoke? Don't mind a good haze but don't care for the rolling smoke.
