I want an intake temp guage! Any recommendations?
I have decided to move my FP guage out of the pillar and either down to the shifter or just leave it underhood and only monitor part time.
Anyway, in my search for the "next step" I've decided that I want to install an air intake temp gauge so I can observe it and the effects of various mods on intake temp.
I'd sort of like to go to a dual-temp guage, where the other temp was oil or water.
Now, I've only seen dual gauges from SPA and Westach. I personally hate the Westachs as the readings aren't that intuitive. (We in the AF have glass cockpits) The SPAs are great (and ACCURATE), but lots of $$.
Anyone running an intake temp gauge? What are you using?
Justin

I use one of these with a rotary switch that will allow me to use five different senders.

If you want one that says air they have this but it only goes to 150F. I've never seen my intake temp that high but some people may.

What ever you get make sure it measures at least down to zero.
I tapped a port into the air horn for my sensor.

is the one i use. i have one channel right at the outlet of the secondary and one channel right before it goes into the head. it's pretty handy for checking stuff. if you get a 1 channel, i would highly recommend putting it BEFORE the IC. after isn't going to tell you much other than the outside temp.

if you have the ISB , it will go into a derate at 156 or 157 degree's. and normally located close to the boost sensor. I believe the higher h.p. truck ISB come with a intake temp sensor that use 5 volt input with a signal output.

I just need the TST.
I figure with a Smarty/TST/Mach4s, I'm pretty much getting all the fuel my HO has.
Then it's DRUGS BABY!

I'm playing with a few of the senders that Bill mentioned. So far it's been interesting and they seem to respond ok. I found out it's a little harder to calibrate a temp sender than a pressure sender.
Drugs are bad. (but oh so fun)...

See, Rowland is basically building MY plan for a truck. Truth be told, I'm copying him, or maybe "great minds think alike"? I wish!
Rowland has built what I feel is about the best all-around truck combo out there.
There's another guy on TDR whose truck I also feel like this about: Fishing Guide (Dave).
Personally, I feel the ultimate all-around setup would be Smarty/M4/TST and then some small twins using perhaps something even smaller than a stock turbo on top. Maybe you don't need a turbo as big as the HX35 for only 500hp or so in twins? I'd like to know.
Anyway, some small, fast spooling (BB or VGT would be nice twins to the SM/M4/TST combo would be an incredible DD truck.
I just want 500hp that spools at idle and pulls strong to 3500rpm without ever having high EGT!
Is that so hard?
