Here's a thought...........................
......................alot of guys around here buy sticks of "conduit" from an eletrical wholesaler REAL CHEAP I think their buyin them for around 7 - 10 bucks a stick and I think the sticks were around 10 feet long. The only thing is with conduit so it seems they measure it somehow different 4" exhaust pipe equivalant is more like 4-1/4" in conduit. The stuff is quite heavily walled, but it's galvanized for welding it, had galvy poisoning when I use to be immortal

UH....hate to say it, but 97's did come with cats. Even the non ca ones.
My 97 had one when it was sold, but it went away long before I bought it. The Dodge FSM says they are supposed to be there.
If someone can prove otherwise, please do so...cats for a diesel ain't cheap !!!!

i knew that i was right about the cat on my 97, but when i got the truck it was already gone, and just yesterday, i took the muffler off and straight piped it. i just hope that it doesnt stop me from passing inspection, nut maybe i can buy one, put it on, and return it after my inspection. . i guess i will just have to wait untill the time comes?

Lowes or Homedepot can order it for you..... they ordered me my 5inch pipes and i bought the 45 degree bends off of some online shop and just welded it together peace by peace..........cat converter on a diesel....hmmm i hope it was missing because its not suppose to have one and for legal to have the exhuast on diesels there no real guidelines.......when i was in California i had my exhuast cut off directly after the resonator for cheap improvement at the time and they still state approved it because there no test or sound guidelines to go by.......

I have heard 4" straight pipe is MUCH louder than 3" straight pipe. I've never heard a 4" straight pipe...that I know of.
Anyone have first hand expirience? How much louder?

the 4 in straight pipe is sick. mine even has a 5 in tip, but i dont think that that makes a bit of difference. its the best when your next to a wall, and even better when going under a low lond overpass!!!

I wouldn't worry about the cat to much. Most diesels don't have them, and when they look under it they'll probably just assume it didn't come with one. But you do need a muffler in most states, or atleast something that looks like one

Just bought a complete 4" straight pipe set up from Pinnacle for $235/ shipping. Should be here next week. I didnt think the price was worth the aggravation of do it yourself.
My 2 cents
