I need a clutch!! but which one?
This is such a great forum!!
Well my clutch is about gone, and the way my luck is going I got only a week or two if I'm easy on it. I would like some idea where I am currently at on HP/Torque and what HP/Torque I should expect with twins. I would like some ideas on which clutch to get with the mods that I have and are planning. I Tow (12000 lbs) and Drag Race a few times (when the Race Car Breaks) but I don't think that I will ever pull. but who knows?
Thanks A Bunch!!

I think a South Bend ConFE would be fine if you never plan on pulling, but a dual disc is the only way to go if you are going to pull much. They are just slow shifting, and not ideal for pulling a trailer in my opinion because it takes you a while to shift, where a single disc is smooth, and quick.

See thats what everybody told me before I got my DD. This thing drives as good as the stocker, heck, I like the feel of it better than the factory clutch! It shifts just as fast, at times its a bit harder to get in gear. But dang I love it. And its super quiet. Im running the SBC 3600 12cb.

Like you, I plan on racing the truck, and don't want to rule out towing in the future. When I talked to Peter, he reccomended the 3600 lb 6 CB clutch. Thats what I ended up getting. Its a bit slower than stock (especially on the 2-3 shift), but I'm happy with it thus far. And I've read that it loosens up a bit once you get some miles on it. If not, I guess I'll just have to do the launches from 3rd.

with the mods listed in your signature you are way over fueled on that 35/40 hybrid but you are prolly around 430hp. a bigger turbo will get you up to about 480ish.
how bad are your egts with the comp turned up? i know you can peg them but its a matter of how fast does it get to 1500?

thanks for the replys, I haven't turned up the comp past 2x4 if I drive the truck easy the clutch works ok no slip, but if I lay into it to pass or pull a hill with a trailer it slips and I have to back out of the throttle. I can get to 1250 pretty fast but when I tow I back the comp off and drive by the EGT gauge. I've gotten some good prices on clutch, and should have the $$ in about two weeks. I hope that over the winter I can get funds saved up for twins/O- ringed/studs that should help the EGT issue, and clean up alot of the smoke that I am making.

I got a great price from some really great guys (Local Diesel Performance shop) on a SBC DD 3850 installed for $1700 or $1600 if I do the install. They have helped me out of a few binds and have never steered me wrong on what parts I need.

The cost is the same so if I go with the bigger one I'll be ready if I really start kicking it up in HP/Torque. I always seem to push thing untill they break then fix that weak link and push it some more. I got the HP bug!!
