I need advice on a VA V5 ... to buy or not?

I was all set, credit card in hand, to purchase a Van Aaken V5, but to my dismay, I received a poor report regarding the unit's reputation/dependability.

Has anyone had problems with their VA? Who has used their warranty service and can critique their experience? Where did you purchase the unit?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I hadn't heard anything bad until today! I was told there have been a lot of returns, as in almost 50%! I spent the afternoon researching this and have yet to find anything negative. I just got off the phone from ordering it ... I'm going to take the chance! Got me an adjustable boost elbow too.

50%??

I can't think of more than one or two situations out of a few hundred I have read about that didn't completely satisfy??

I'd be suprised if you weren't happy with VA.

That was what I thought too. I have been looking at the VA for several months now and thought I made an informed purchase ... we'll see! Worst scenario, that's what a warranty is for.

I run the VA with 275's. I installed them both and had the valve adjust done all in the same week. I started noticing a stumble at idle, which is intermittent. I pulled the VA one day and thought it went away. I called VA and they were ready to swap it out for me. He only asked that I help them out by narrowing it down to one port or the other. While doing that I realized it wasn't the VA at all. long story short (too late right?) I kept it. So I guess its an injector deal, but lucky me, I already shipped off my stocker injectors for core

Micah, I'm doing the same thing. 275's, VA and a new VP next weekend. I'm going to do the valve adjust at the same time. The truck should run like never before ... can't wait!

I have the Van Aaken V5 and Rv275 injectors. I pull a 6500# travel
trailer in the Sierras. I can "pass" other cars at 65- 70 mph with no
EGT issues. I am going to go with the "Smarty" in the future. I can
never have enough power !

What do you all mean by valve adjust? When you replace the stock injectors with the RV275's, what do you have to do to the valves? I'm working on the same mod, haven't completely made up my mind if I'm going with V5 and the 275's or just the v5. Having a western star shop do the work, what do I need to tell them about the valves?

the 24v motors have a scheduled valve adjustment at 150,000 miles. My truck was at 144,000 so I had it done at the same time.

piperca,

We sell the following, VA, Bully Dog, Edge, Predator, Superchips, TS Performance as far as performance modules and to be honest there isn't a whit of difference between any of them as far as warranty returns goes. The VA is a good as all the above mentioned manufacturers. This is why we carry these manufacturers, they work, don't have a history of failure etc
