hy35 to hx35

why are some ppl changing turbos what are the pros and cons of doing this im new to the diesel world still learning alot thanks for your help guys

The only think I know for sure is you can use an ajustable boost elbow on the HX. Im almost certain there is a difference in size but I cant throw any of those facts your way.

hy has a 9cm ex housing stock and hx has a 12cm housing most of the time so you would get lower egt's with the hx. Their are other diff like wheel sizes but the ex housing is the biggest I beleive.

HY builds boost quicker which is why they're only on the automatics
HX breathes better=cooler EGT's, but they build boost slower than the HY
Now when pulling or the addition of a programmer/module, EGT's are going to run a little higher w/ an HY, which is why some swap it out for an HX. With the addition of more fuel, it'll spool a little faster (HX) than it did if the engine was stock.

i had an hy on my 01 3500 they do get you up and moving quikly but they run out of air fast. i have an hx on there now and i like it she is not as quik but has alot more top end . hx 40 going in soon i need more air ! oh yeah and a smarty

If you think an hx35 is slow, you're probably not going to like that 40. Especially with just a smarty...
