hy vs hx for building twins.

strictly on external measurements is the HX and HY-35 exhaust housing the same? i've got a friend with a head and exhaust manifold that could make a hotpiped for me with the correct measurements, he's got an hy-35... if he bolts that up and removes the backing plate, will it be in the same place as if he were using an HX? i know the housings don't swap on the center sections but will this end line up? thanks in advance

Yes, they can both be used.

They have the same elbow bolt pattern. If you are planning to go with an internal stock stle gate, the HX35 will be a better fit. You can get a larger housing if needed as well as the fact that it has a larger exhuast housing out of the box.

With the HY, you are stick with the housing that's on it.

If you are going to externally gate the turbo, you can lock down the HY gate. Or, you can do the same with the HX and or change to a non wastegated housing. The wategated and non wastegated sousings are different lengths however and would require a new hot pipe.

One thing is for sure, the HY on toop spools extremely fast. You will have to take measures to ensure that you are not overspeeding that turbo.

I think he just wanted to know if the physical outside dimensions between the two are the same.

The answer is still yes if the HX has a wategated housing.
