HX35 on a gas burner?

Im piecing together a custom turbo setup for a 3.0L Toyota straight six. It makes 225hp at the crank, stock, and revs to 6500 rpm. Its going to have the proper much lower compression, large injectors, fuel managment, ect..... Could I use a stock HX35 turbocharger, or one similiar, for this setup?

Im trying to make around 500hp, btw. Im not fimiliar with turbo sizing at all, obviously. I know IF the turbo is the proper size and all, I only need to push around 20psi to make that kind of power (compared to others like it.) Would it work?

Half the displacement and twice the revs- it should work

Think about the displacement per cylinder. I think that is more important that total displacement or operating RPM.

Think about each exhaust pulse that hit the hot side of the turbo and how big that pulse is from a single cylinder that displaces 60 cubic inches.

I would be curious to know how it works and If I am full of (*&^% here.

Remember guys these turbos are also getting exhaust from an engine that is NOT ONLY 2X the cubic inches but also and engine that has OVER 2X the static C/R.

Yes the HX35's work on a gasser, many people used to use them on their 5.0 Mustangs etc....

For your Supra, a T-4 flange turbo would probably be a better option for spoolup & will make the same HP as one of these Hx35's

Look into the MP series turbos, i use twin MP-70's on my Firebird....they're T4 based & will make 750+ HP each....for about $600 brand new, you cant go wrong.

Look into a company called bullseye power, they machine exhaust housings to swap onto the Holset line of turbos. Can pretty much get you set-up with a better flowing exhaust housing for the ranges you'll be running and the right flanges to boot.

Won't be cheap, though.

As a side note, Holset turbos have been used with pretty good success in the DSM crowd I came from. I almost threw one on mt 97 Talon, but decided to go back to stock and buy everything else that came attached to the turbo instead (my truck!).

Wow, I thought any turbo would work somewhat well on any motor. I have the stock turbo from my 03, and I was wondering if it would work on a Honda Civic.

Flubyux2 sent me to supramania,.... where a few guys have done this. The only problem is you need to use an external wastgate, and possibly an oil restrictor. For some reason they recommend tubular style manifold, also.

Pretty interesting.

Its going to be used on my Lexus SC300. Ive already purchased a tranny ans clutch, supposed to be good for $600+ hp.

Sure, it would work, with about a 200 shot of laughing gas.

....and they recommended a tubular manifold to help with spool up.

Well, this is a project that will happen sometime in the future. I only thought of it after seeing several fast Hondas out here. Then I thought I might be able to use my old turbo on a car instead of using it as a paper weight.

From what Ive read so far, theres LOTS of mitsubishi eclipse's and honda civic guys, making big numbers with Holset turbos.

I can't say exactly what turbo this guy had on his supra, but it was huge and made me think of the hx35. He had an adjustable wastegate on it was producing over 500hp I believe and said he had done nothing to the bottom end, cause I asked.

Now I don't know how much truth was behind it, he was outside the parts house I part timed at and had his hood up messing with the wastegate setting and I did witness the huge turbo. I also witnessed him burning through 3 gears as he left, fish tailing everytime he let out the clutch. Wicked fast!!

Hey Stock 03 I here you about the paper weight but I think I am going with an Ht3b on my 462 Pontiac powered 69 Firebird!!! I know a guy from my area who put a turbonetics 88mm on his 428 69 Pontiac Powered Firbird and it has a few forged parts in it like rods and pistons but not much more and it flat out fly's!! Its in the low 9's spinning!!

Yea, interested in the install on my ridding mower which I run VP 112 octane in now. I just need to figure out how to get the 1.5 acre of lawn mowed in under 15min and this should do it!
