Is your truck a 12 or 24 valve?

Hey Rockjeep, what were EGT's like at the end of the 1/4 running 13.90's? Did the smoke clear pretty good once it was spooled? Just curious

When the truck was running in the mid 13's it was the same setup plus, a ported stock exhaust housing on the turbo with enlarged wastegate (in order to keep the boost down), Ported head (done by me), .020" thicker head gasket, and F1 valve springs, ARP studs, and O-rings all done while the head was off. This setup is when the truck did about 415 on a dynojet.

Obviously not all of these upgrades are necessary for running 13's, they are however necessary for the level my truck is at now.

A key component that I almost forgot to mention was the full DTT trans and converter.
oh i see. well sounds like you have a nice setup. thanks for the explanation.

Smoke cleared up almost completely without the W/M. With the W/M on there was a decent haze at full throttle. When its cool out (60-75*) the truck would run 2-3 tenths quicker and EGT's would only hit about 1500*. When it was hot out the truck would slow down some and EGT's would peg the gauge at 1600 at the end of the track. The truck ran best with the wastegate set at 31-32psi, as opposed to 35psi where it was at before I opened up the exhaust housing and wastegate.

this is a good thread, so let me ask, why did you wastegate it down? don't you want the most boost?

Yes you want the most boost, the most boost that your turbo can EFFICIENTLY produce. Everyone will tell you that anything above 35psi on an HX35 and you are just making hot air, not cool usable boost.

With the wastegate all the way open on my truck it would make 35-36psi with the W/M. I enlarged the wastegate in order to control the boost even more, and in preparation for future mods. When I put the turbo back on I set the boost to 31-32psi and the truck ran quicker at that setting, so thats where it stayed.
