Question Hx-55w

iam getting my engine rebuilt and doing some mods and need some advice.
i have a 2000 ram 3500 with an air intake comp box 5inch exhaust con fe clutch super mental injectors and just bought an hx-55w for 300 do you think that i will have any problems with spool up? would it be better to put on my big head wastegate acuator or stay with the stock 55 one?

If you don't just add more fuel. However I think you will be fine. also if you cant spool it up i would be glad to take it off your hands.

Lets see you spend dang good money on a great clutch, then you spend even more good money on a set of high dollar sm's from DD then you want to put an hx55??????? What gives??

Do yourself a favor and go get a phat shaft or sled puller 66 or even an htb2

Dont short yourself in the air delivery department or you will definately regret it!!!!!

Dont ask me how i know!!

Dont knock the 55. It might not be the flavor of the month but it sure has won some truck pulls.

This is true, but for street driven trucks there are a lot of better options out there. I ran an HX50 for awhile and it was a real pig, I couldn't even spool the thing at the line when at the track.

I ran a 55. It makes good power. Typically a 24V will be hatin life to get it spooled. Laggy, soggy, etc.

We have had 5 of 6 of the 55's explode the compressor wheels. It is a good wheel design for efficiency but does not like PR's over 4.3.

There are a bunch of turbine sizes and housings too. I tried many.

I managed over 600 HP 3 years ago with one, but it was a daily driver pig compared to what is out there now in use.

A few weeks back Gullet popped a 55 compressor wheel to the sky on the dyno - ( of all things ) and the last one my buddy exploded; all the pieces of the compressor could be poured out of a styrofoam cup. Nothing larger than a penny was recovered. One of the ones I launched pieces ended up in the cylinders and were embedded in the tops of my pistons when I removed the head.

Just be careful and try to not overspeed the rotor and it should last for a while. Use it as a temp turbo and get a B-1 or similar less likely to break turbo for the long haul.

12V's will spool them much better.

Don~

Sorry to affend you pourin,

But its not that i was doggin the 55, I just didnt understand why a person would go and spend a lot of money on fuel and then go and kill the bottom end power the real torque.

To me the 55 is not really suitable for street driving IMO its not suitable for our trucks like don said they have problem exploding this i have seen first hand,

That is the reason I said what I said

Sorry
Jake
