Hx 40, Super 40, S300g, Dodgezilla.

Ok guys these are all the turbos Im looking into. Im trying to find a turbo that will support 400hp or so while not spending over a grand on it. As far as fueling mods will go I will be running my Comp and some 100hp or so injectors, but I haven't decided on which ones I want yet.

Whats the difference between the Super 40 and just an HX40? How much better is the PDR 40 compared to the Super 40? What are the draw backs of two? It seems that the weak shafts are a problem, correct? Also I've been looking in to a S300g, because a few members said they seem to work pretty good, but I have read alot of posts about them surgeing and what not. Whats the best what to keep them from surgeing? Would I be better off with at stock s300g or a modified one. Like I said I'm trying to keep it under $1000.

As far as the Dodgezilla goes, its a 35/40 hybird.

What size housings do yall recommend for these turbos? Wgtd or not?

Turbo Thom recommend the 16cm housing for the S300.

Super 40 $850---I like the price
PDR 40 $1075
S300g $900 but i think i heared some one say something around 700
DZ $800 for a 14cm Non/wgted
If these prices dont sound right direct me towards the vendor that will give me the best deal on that specific turbo.

Basically just help me pick a freakin turbo.

i had a S300 on my truck with a regrind cam and 370's and a lot of fuel. it was a bit laggy on the street for everyday use as the turbo was stock. but wow when it lit about 2500 rpms it was hard to keep the thing between the lines on the road. it loved to sqeal the tires in third! i was making about 50lbs of boost with it. it was a great pulling charger but if its going to be street use go with one of the 40's. for the price you cant beat the 40's. i have one on my twin set up and like it alot. the new super 40's are balnced diff. and the comp. wheel is a little different to i think. this all helped make them a ton more reliable and more condusive so harsh invironments. any one else have any thing to say? this is just my 2cents.

I just got done installing my HTT hybrid 60mm wheel and housing, and I have a 14cm w/g housing, so its a 35/40 with a 14cm. It was a bit slower on the spool up than the hx35, so I slammed my plate full forward for more fuel, and it sure moves now, once the tires hook up in third and I shift to forth, look out you are haulin, before u know it your shifting into fifth. When it hits about 8lbs of boost, it seems to instantly snap to 40lbs, plus temps are down. I really like my 35/40, and an auto has less turbo lag issues also so it would work good in your application, just my .02

I'm running the Super B right now...I think I'm running about 280hp worth of fuel. Not enough turbo for 400 towing, but if you're just running empty with some quick runs to high speed it should be great. Takes about 90mph on a 12v to get above 1350, and EGT's top out ~1425 about 105mph

I'm hitting 371hp at the wheels and even at 117mph I can only hit 1250* pre turbo with my KSB-1. Yes it's expensive but I highly recommend it. Even with my comp on 2x2 and 275 injectors it spools like stock. 5x5 and 275's and it spools like mad. Almost identical to my stock HY35. This turbo would be great for the 400-450hp crowd.

what size is a super B compared to a super 40? i have someone with a full on b1 that he is willing to sell me but its alot more than the super 40...

who makes the super 40 and would it be enough air to support 400hp safely and maybe more hp if i control EGTs with the foot.

right now my 35 with banks housing is spinning 40 psi, and im just shy of 400hp, but within 5 second of WOT in 5 or 6th gear its at 1400degrees and climbing

A Super B compressor is 58mm I think...I forgot to check that when I put mine on! A Super 40 is 60mm I think and is built by Holset. It's a regular 40 with a redesigned compressor wheel and zero balancing I believe. It should be enough for 400hp, but I would think the Super B would get toasty at higher RPM with a load or high speed!

HTT, call Paul and see what he says! I think any 40 will get toasty too far above 400-425, though!

My roommate has the superb and he's at 402hp and he can still hit 1300-1400* on a good hard run.

I have seen 540 RWHP with an HX-40, but it was not enough turbo to clear the exhaust stream, at 490 HP it cleaned up real nice.

What housing and what were the EGT's? I'll bet they were through the roof!

Of your 4 picks, I think the DZ (14 cm2) will give your the best daily driving, but get a little toasty on WOT runs.
The PDR40 would do the best job of handling 400 hp if you drive your truck hard, and like to play a lot.
Depends on your style of driving, IMO.

IMHO A Dodgezilla/14 and an S300g (aka Super B) will perform close to the same. These will be more friendly on the street and while towing than the 40 but the will not cool as well on the top end during those WOT runs as the 40 will.

I would definitely run a WG'ed housing so if you do not already have one the S300g is a better, more affordable buy but remember you will need to also buy a $150 downpipe with the S300g so your cost is getting close to the DZ/WG'ed 14 housing. S300g's were running around $850 last I checked.

FWIW there is also an HTBG from High Tech Turbo that is a modified S300g which sells for $995.

I would not even consider a standard 40 when the Super 40 is about $100 more and again the 40's will need a new DP. Supers are $875 from HTT.

I don't know what the temps were, my guess 1500*+, it was a 14 or 16, I don't remember for sure.
