Angry HX 35 with a 60mm upgrade question

I figured this would be the best place to ask. I put a HX35 on my 89 and installed a GDS stage 3.5 and today I got on it hard and then when my boost hit 42psi the housing popped off . I have a little bit of damage on the housing and some light wear on the fins. What I was wondering is when I put the housing on it felt like it didn't want seat but the snap ring clicked in, I guess not enough. Do you guys with the housing upgrade use the o-ring or leave it out, I ask this because I think that is what kept the housing from seating on the backing plate.

Any info will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Mine would only go together without the o-ring. Its been fine for several years and 3 different trucks.

Thanks. Thats probably why it seemed like the snap ring didn't seat.
