HTBG right for my needs?

Hi there, I've been reading hundreds of posts on turbo's and I'd like to get some tips for my set up. I've have the dilemma like many others regarding the HX35W cast elbow being restrictive and wondering if I should just get a different turbo rather than going with the 4" megamouth downpipe to a new 4" exhaust. I'm not going to be running a comp, just a Van Aaken box +65hp plus the RV275 injectors +40hp, BHAF etc. So at about 100hp over stock and pulling 10,000# is a HTBG turbo going to be a bit laggy without the comp or is it going to be a big improvement over stock? I dont want to spend the extra $500 for the HTB2 which may be overkill anyway. The HTBG and downpipe will run about $1175. Anybody able to comment on this? Thanks!

Still waiting for my gauges from piers and apparently the fass II pump is currently on backorder because their supplier has nothing assembled.

HTT recommended the HTB2 w/12cm housing, or the HTBG as a second choice over the Holset turbos.

If those mods are the only items you plan on, a PDR Hybrid will be more than enough, and leave you the option of having a turbo mounted exhaust brake.

I've been running a Bell WSB which is similar to the HTBG. I recently switched to a 62/12 S300. At your level I would run a hybrid 35. Either PDR 35 or Dodgezilla from City Diesel.

Get the HTB2 and dont worry about it any more. Chances are you will end up with a extra mod or ten in the future and if you use a turbo thats good for what you have right now all will be good till you jump to the next step (it happens to all of us). I had the HTBG in the begining and swaped that sucker out fast for the HTB2, that's one nice thing about buying a turbo from HTT is the ability to upgrade the turbo in the future for a small cost vs having to purchase a whole new turbo.

I guess my main concern with going to the HTBG or HTB2 is turbo lag . I'd like a reasonably fast spool at low rpms and then not overheat as I accelerate. I don't want to run a big fuelling box because this is a work truck and I won't be out playing with the power, I just need a setup with good grunt. Anybody running one of these without a comp? My truck feels like a bit of a dog when starting up a hill going from 2nd to 3rd. I'll know a bit more when my gauges arrive to see my fuel pressure. It's running very well though, I like the truck.

funny you should ask.
I ran my truck most of the way home yesterday without the comp box on and it didnt accel as good but still not bad and while railing on it for a long run I wasnt able to get higher than 1150 deg.
I'm running 125hp sticks with the HTB2.
