HTB2 64/14 and MBRP 4" Installed

Took about 4 hours to install the 64/14 and another 2 hours on the exhaust. I do not get in a hurry when doing stuff like this, so I'm sure my times could've been reduced. The turbo bolted right up, but the oil drain line took some reworking and essentially took the most time. I ended up cutting the oil drain line and got some heater hose with a 90 preformed into it to connect the 2 pieces. I do not know how long the heater hose will hold up to engine oil but I am keeping an eye on it.

I did quite a bit of reading to determine which turbo I wanted to put on my truck and decided to go with High Tech Turbo. Then, lots more reading to determine which size compressor/exh. housing to go with. I am very pleased with the 64/14. Thanks to everybody that steered me in this direction. I believe anything any smaller would've definitely been too little for my fueling. I can still get to 1500, but it is slower and I am making more power. Spoolup is not noticably different when romping on it from a stop.......only when I'm cruising in 5th and lay into it.......then it takes about a second for the turbo to light. My boost goes up to around 38-39 psi max. I need to find out how to adjust the wastegate up to 45 or so. I believe the 14cm housing is capable of a 1/1 drive pressure/boots pressure up to 45 and I believe more power could be made.

I have only towed my 1000 pound boat, so no real towing experience with the new turbo as of yet. Paul at HTT said about 1/10 of the 64/14's has surging issues that are hard to determine the cure, hopefully I'm not one of the 10.

I like the sound of the MBRP........nice low tone, no drone, fairly easy install.

The downpipe I bought with the turbo only mated to the 4" exhaust with some sort of sleeve clamp........neither piece would fit inside the other, they just butted up against each other and the clamp seems to seal it off well. I am considering getting it welded there and getting an extra exhaust hanger or 2 welded from the frame for more support. Are there any major downsides to getting the downpipe welded to the exhaust?

Anyway, I will be happy to answer any questions I can regarding my setup. Got to go update my signature.

Sounds great! Just a word of caution, though.....heater hose does not last long when used to transfer oil....it doesn't take long for the hose to get soft and mushy....go to your local hydraulic parts supplier and they will get you set up with the correct hose for your needs.

govspringbounce,

I had the stock hx35 on there as the previous turbo.

CTD NUT,

Will do. I was in a pinch and got what I needed to get the truck drivable. I was hoping someone would chime in and let me know if it was ok to use or not. Thanks.
