HTB2 62 right for me?

So now that I have my tranny done it's time for some more fuel and a lot more air. I'll admit that I don't know a whole about turbos. I did a few searches and it sound like this might be a good choice for where I want to be. I'm planning on being in the 425-450 range. I want to be able to tow occasionaly but nothing to serious.

Would a pdr or dz 35/14 be a better choice for me. I just don't want to be hitting 1500* at wot.

With the htb2/62, what would be the best choice for ex. housing. 12 or 14cm.

Thanks guys.

Doug

With the setup you have, the HTB2/62 14cm2 would be an excellent addition. I run the II Phat Shaft 62 14cm2 and it's awesome. Do not get a hybrid, they are not worth it IMO. I tow in the summer and with the comp on 3x5 or in EZ mode I easily stay under 1300*. Upgrading from a Hybrid HX-35 to the II PS62 bought me an additional 80 HP and dropped the EGT more than 250*

For that HP range going with a 62mm turbo would be a much better choice than the PDr or DZ turbo. We sell more PS62 trubos than all else combined and guys are just thrilled with the performance, egt control, and driving manners of this turbo. The new hybrids are a much better option than what was available just a year or two ago.....

With an auto, I'd think you'd want a 12cm housing for better spool up. HTB2 would be a very good choice though.

Towing, the 14 would probably be better.

I run the sled pull 66 turbo and have put a 64/14 turbo on a 97 12V.
The 64/14 spools very nicely, so I think you'll be more than happy with the 62/14, as the 24Valves & CR engines seem to spool these better with less chance of surge.

Thanks for the replys guys. So, the 62 sounds like a good choice for what I'm looking for but I guess I don't fully understand the 12cm vs. 14 cm. thing.
Towing would be better with the 14? Wouldn't it be laggy? Would a 12 keep me cool enough? Soooooooo confusing.

Why don't they just make a 13cm housing and be done with it.

Right now I running 315's w/3.54 gears and my truck seems to be a little laggy with the hy-9 off the line. Does that affect which exhaust housing I should go with? I do plan on swapping in some 4.10's at some point though.

Thanks again for the info.

Doug,

The tall tires are part of you lag problem (although 315 isn't too big).... Any of the above mentioned 62mm turbos is going to spool slower than you HY. Maybe you have a boost leak or a problem with you current turbo. The HY is the fastest spooling turbo available for our trucks.

As for housing size, the 12cm will spool slightly faster but have more backpressure and heat and possibly have surge issues. The 14cm housing will cool better, less backpressure, but be slightly slower on spoolup. Everything is a compromise otherwise we would all have turbos that spool like the HY and boost like a set of twins.
