i had a 3 month old fenco i think it was, but it held with the edge ez that i think was 65hp and 90 hp injectors, but then i came across a superchips tuner and the clutch slipped befor i made it around the block. after it sliped the first time i had to be easy on the thottle to avoid slipping. after two weeks of that i got a south bend, when i took the old clutch apart the flywheel was kinda blue lol good think southbend clutches come with a new flywheel

The funny thing is that when I took out my stocker because I thought it was slipping the the Smarty and Mach 4s, the mechanic asked me why I was replacing a perfectly good clutch..

No glaze, no evidence of overheating. All I know is it didn't feel right and wouldn't hold more than 38psi or so..

38psi on a stock clutch is impressive, if I may say so..

Same here as far as clutch health. The stocker held 340 hp but would slip if you really got a good haul on it. It didn't look bad at all.

I would say it should hold if thats all you do for engine mods.

$850? Check out http://valairinc.com/performance/dualdisc.html Import 1 3/8" shaft upgrade kit for $550 and US made for $650. I'd take a careful look at their clutches too-they are very competitive. Plus they just started carrying a 4500 flywheel drilled for the bigger (13" vs 12.25") clutch assembly so you don't need a 6 speed fly and starter shim.

My 13" didn't slip when I overrated it, the friction backing "wrinkled" for lack of a better description causing it to drag. It failed after I went past 350hp/850ftlbs which is where Valair lists limits. Valair lists this type of failure (hub failure) as a problem for the 12.25" clutch as well with the numbers at 300hp and 700ftlbs. I would be concerned if you approach these numbers.
