Wink the hp game.....

ok first of all, Not trying to start a fight or brand loyalty thing, just curious. only asking this cause my brother just bought a 06 dmax. his dmax with a chip up to 500hp vs my truck @ 500hp. not that its there yet but hope to b soon lol not pulling sleds but mostly running empty. what can i expect? does 500 hp=500 hp? or will my torque help me pull ahead? or his 6spd Allison auto help him?

If you are drag racing, he owns you badly ( Auto vs. Stick ). If he wants to hook them together, make sure you weigh more than he does, and try and keep your hook higher than his, not that I would do such a thing.

Agreed, now all we have to do is figure out how to get a good paddle shifter manual in there so the boost doesn't drop during the shift.........

I have an 05' Dmax that makes 503/1086 thru the stock trans in 4th gear. Above that itll just slip the trans. Dont underestimate a Dmax. The tq comes on low and the power up top doesnt fall off very fast with the VGT. Most will flash stall to 2100rpm on launch, which is fully spooled and ripping off the line.

That being said, my Dmax weighs 8,100lbs. Any you see in my sig which truck I built to race. hahaha

Good luck with running him. Just make sure you launch in 2nd and shift quick. Once your moving and spooled its all on your turbo choice. Too big and you lag every shift. Go as small as possible to spool faster and you can run with the auto's.

don't get me wrong, i know the dmax is a great truck and i have huge respect for it. but if i can get my truck to run close to one with 10 years' more technology on it id b happy. that'll b my excuse anyways lol. and as for running with the fords..... lol not worried about that at all.

p.s. still working on the paddle shifter mode.....

When it comes to racing, (not that I know a lot about it) HP does not = HP. There are too many variables. Torque, gearing, tire size, weight, drag auto vs stick, etc. In your case, (in my opinion) the biggest things you've got against you going up against your buddy is that his D-max has a long rpm range with a "powerband" that fills most of it. Your Big C was built to tow with a short "useable" rpm range. It's a science to get it all right but it can be fun getting there. You've probably got to make your RPM range wider (which generally comes with making more power on these things) and shift like greased lightning!
My advice: if you can't beat him at 500hp, make 650 and blow his doors off!!
Please make the power and please beat him! I can't stand those imports!

I'm affraid you're going to have to prove to me that Cummins is German... The 5.9L is produced in Columbus Indiana and was designed by a joint venture between Cummins and Case. and as far as I know, Cummins is all American.... except the Bosh P-Pump.

Sorry, didnt mean to throw you off.

I know this isnt the best place to defend the Dmax, but its a well designed, strong, and very long lasting engine. Far from some import crap diesels.

You can see from my sig I'm a big cummins fan as well, but show me a Cummins with an auto trans behind it at 230,000+ miles making 500+whp on just an intake, exhaust, and tuners.
In all my towing, road trips, and racing, I've had to replace an alternator at 208k miles and a tail light bulb at 225k miles. Thats some extreme reliability!!!!

Respect for all the big 3 Diesels,But when you say Diesel pick-up ,most people think Cummins.
Still and all making big power is in trade for reliability. Bump up to say 400HP with quality work and Run Him when you both have 300K miles.
