The only option I've come up with so far is a manual hub conversion kit from Dynatrac. Anyone done the manual Dynatrac hubs? Any mpg increase?
jh
I've got 2wd low on my truck right now.

Front driveshaft is still sitting in the garage.

I'd love to get the Dynatrac conversion kit, but there's a whole lot I can do with $2.5K prior to that.

It's nice to have manual hubs, that's for sure. I use 2 low at least once a week. For slow manuvering, tugging, chugging, pulling-whatever, it's so much easier on the drivetrain to just ease the clutch out at idle and let her eat! I think www.offroaddesign.com has a twin-stick for the 205. I don't need it, but three levers coming through the floor has got to be worth 10 rwhp, right?!

If you know of any boneyard with old Jeep Wagoneers in them, look for an 80's model. Easy to spot because they are covered in woodgrain. Look under the dash and most will have a lever which engages 4x4 on them. This switch is held on with 2 screws and will look pretty factory in another vehicle. It has 3 hose connections on the back for vacuum lines- middle goes to a vacuum source, and the other 2 run to the front axle disconnect. Its already marked "4x4" and "4x2". 20 minutes max to install and it works great. I used to use one on my Wrangler that used the same vacuum disconnect as our Rams. No solution to a bad disconnect, like a Posilock is, but its much cheap if you just want 2wd-low.

Posing a question...

Can the above talked about modification be done to a 2001?

Thanks.

You would have too see if you have the cad. Mine is a 2002 and I still have the cad. Just look at your front axle. If there is a large bulge around the axle tube on the R/H side with a vacuum hose and a diaphram on the back side of the bulge I would say you have the cad axle.

Guess I don't do enough business with Granger to get a discount. Mine cost me $51.26 with tax and shipping.

I've noticed that with my '00 in 2-low that it's difficult to control while on ice trying to back up to my trailer. Rear brakes didn't want to hold it -- wheels just kept spinning and sliding my back-end sideways. Finally gave up and put it into 4x4 to control the drivetrain off the front brakes. Maybe I'll find some time this weekend to re-adjust the rear shoes.
